Is bringing people on-site that much of an advantage over releasing a public beta?

I'll gladly test Brink from my home...for free.... ;)

They will probably get more experienced testers which can dedicate more time to the game and they won't have all the whiny spam.

Still plenty of people out there that got a job and could help out almost as much. Maybe even contribute more!

I don't think the beta phase is ruled out because of this. More like they want a better game before they go into some form of a beta.
We all know how Bad Company 2 were when they had their beta. No one wants that!

The scope of our in-house team is vastly different from what one would look to get out of any sort of large-scale beta. Apples and oranges, really.

Is this a late April 1st?

Anyway, I would apply if I had a year extra in my life.

Sounds like my dream job

pity I already have one

Hmm... I really don't want to move half way across the world just to do that. Hopefully there's a savings fund for patching in the works . (tempted to upload a video of yummy QW 1.5 bugs)

hehe I didn't even know such a job existed
Looks cool, but not as easy as i first thought

What badman means by his "apples and oranges" analogy is to convey a simple fact that SD expects internal testers to actually playtest and not just WHIIIIIIINE.
^_^

So, yes, if you want some work on game done, having an inhouse experienced tester is an insane advantage.

Sounds like an awesome job, I always try things I'm not supposed to try
I'm not really in the position to move to England for that though, it'd be better to finish Uni first and then get a proper job

edit: shame it's all about playtesting on consoles btw, I never play FPS on consoles.

This would be awesome lol

Consoles are part of the job but not exclusively so.

Exactly. Although the timing is good, during this period I'm able to put my study on hold and do something else. But then again, I always imagined that 'something else' to be travelling

Also, the job seems to be mainly bug testing, trying to fish for exploits and not necessarily overall game balance. I know you can't be picky for a job as a game-tester at Splash Damage but I might as well apply for being the janitor there.

Damnit, so tempting :-( I am not even skilled enough to participate for a SD game tester *cry*
Probably good enough for the "Essential Skills and Experience" part though.

Ahwell, i am frustrated and will loadup Leisure Suit Larry 2 again *sigh*

Hope you find some good testers

Too bad its on-site, I match the requirements but live in another country =[

I'm good at breaking software in general. I almost always have something with a beta label installed on my computer.

Unfortunately, my FPS experience is limited to Halo (1&2), W:ET, ET:QW and one really early PS2 COD game. :/

It'd be fun comparing etqw bugs in brink and see which still exist.

It's a job, meaning you have to work - it's not all about "Let's play games together and have fun wheee!" .
*though there is some of that, of course

Posted on 16 July, 2010 - 09:36
I realise that, I mentioned it because in the job description console experience is listed as an 'essential skill'.
Posted on 16 July, 2010 - 09:40
It says preferably on consoles, so not essential.

The essential bit is "Experienced First Person Shooter player" :p
