New Quake Wars Online Teaser Trailer Released
Submitted by badman on Thu, 12/17/2009 - 14:19
A brand-new teaser trailer has been released for Quake Wars Online, the free-to-play version of Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars being created for the Korean market. Quake Wars Online is in development at South Korean studio Dragonfly and features ETQW's familiar GDF and Strogg forces as they battle it out for Earth using a multitude of weapons, deployables, and vehicles.
Better yet, the game's freshly relaunched website has word that Quake Wars Online is moving into a limited public testing phase with slots for some 100,000 willing gamers. If you fancy participating, you can sign up until December 28, though it looks like this is available to Korean players only.
You can check the new teaser trailer out below.

Might be only available to Korean players. TreeFrog explained in this post how it works over there.

Snap! but thanks darthmob for the feedback / Link :).
edit: anyway nice to see it goes live like Quake3 is. My hardware could not handle my copy (cheep 30 Euro card) so maybe this version will run better (wich i almost have no doubt about :) )

From what I've read posted around various places
This will basically be exactly the same as the ETQW
That we have all been playing since release
So does anyone have a hint where the MMOFPS aspects come into it
Or why it is being marketed as such?

I wouldn't suppose it'd be too hard to use the ranked servers and data then just beef up the character development and weapons etc.

MMOFPS = massive multiplayer online
with 28,000 gaming cafes serving 40+ million players, I'd say it was massive

Sure, I'm just wondering if there will stuff like quests or character progression
Or if it will just be the same that we had

From what I gather, it's the same game licensed to a closed network of gaming cafes in Korea, not accesible by internet.

Holy crap, mhmm somehow i don't want to play that one anymore :(
I mean i know the psycho stuff from Resident Evil 4/5 or Doom3 and i expect it from those games to have a intense psycho level. But to f*ck up quakewars like that ain't my thing and has not much to do with QW (Even i only tried the beta tbh).
I wonder why ID / SD let them change the game so much. I mean it could be more like a MOD or something but not using original QW for sells when its changed so much. QW: PsychoMod would be better ;)
ahwell... another question. why is this only for that country and not for Europe ? And why do we get somehow teased with this when its only available in that country...odd odd ;)

it's for the koreans, it's a different culture, you don't have to like it
eg i can't get warm with the rpg battle stuff in final fantasy either and would prefer to have god of war style slashing, but the japs seem to dig that kind of stuff where you see sth and hear voices and see only pictures and lots of stars in the background while in fact nothing happens at all on the screen. different culture

mhmm, i do like that kind of style when i somehow expect it like Doom3 or Silent Hill (resident evil was wrong wich i posted before). I also like Final Fantasy (ok sometimes too much monsters to kill...).
I hope i get accepted in the Final Fantasy 14 beta cause it may be a good opponent for WoW.
But your right, its a total different culture but i mostly only like the Square/Enix games and the shootergames (With planes, 2D ?).
What i wanted to say is that it says Quakewars but its not the original anymore...or am i wrong ? :S
edit: ok, maybe they just changed the characters for the Asians...I just checked some youtube footage and i guess the characters only changed ? (confused ;) )

It could even be that nothing has changed
And these are just artist impressions used in a promotional campaign
Also it kind of says it's a movie rather than gameplay
So that would be my guess for now

Anything that gets QW some publicity can't be bad

The one thing I like from the trailers is that it looks like you can swap out a GDF weapon for a Strogg weapon. I would have loved to see that in the retail version.

I’m in favor of anything that generates QW mindshare/sales and moves us closer to the idTech 5-based Quake Wars IS (“interstellar”--set just before Quake 2, with some maps on Earth, some on Stroggos, some on various moons).

It would be cool to play through the timeline to Q2 again. How long did the Stroggies infest the Earth anyway?

Around the time quake live came out, john carmack mentioning maybe ET would get the same treatment depending on how quake live did.
Haven't heard anything since, but when I first saw this I thought they were doing etqw instead. Could this be a testbed to later have internet access like quake live?

At first I didn’t like the idea of a different game that is ALMOST Quake Wars. I like QW as it is! But an idea that evolves can have real merits. So I welcome any new form QW may take.

I believe this is just ETQW but done a la quake live. I don't believe there is any modifications to the actual gameplay, just that they made a new cgi trailer.

That would be cool, but trailer made me wonder. That, and the changes made to QW for consoles (which I understand but don’t like*).
(* Then again, I don’t like first-person shooters on consoles, period. Joystick aiming is so awkward that they give you auto-aim training wheels. I’d rather do my OWN aiming.)

I'm Korean Player.
I was closed beta tester of QUAKE Wars Online (quakewars.co.kr).
It's same to Original ETQW.

Cool—I’d love to see QW reach more people. Best game I’ve ever played, and sadly underappreciated. (I generally have about half a dozen good servers to choose from... but I used to have more and those days were nice.)

So is there any plans for this to have a wider NA release a la quake live?

you say free isn't an activision kind of thing, but id did it with quake live. Anyway, it would be awesome and I think it's something they should consider based upon the success of this. They can look at quake live's success as a base, but it is a very old game. Just the fact of this being a somewhat recent game comparatively could give it a boost in popularity.

you realize this version of Quake Wars is not on the internet, but rather a large network of gaming cafes (22,000+) with centrally hosted game servers that Korean nationals (must have id number) can play at for a small fee

Thanks for the clarification. Still, 22,000 sites loaded with QW sounds good to me :)

I doubt that a online version of a game will be moddable, hopefully will include community maps, or maybe a new map!
