An Update on our Release Plans for RAD Soldiers

The response to RAD Soldiers has exceeded all our expectations. We’ve had fantastic feedback from around the web on the RAD Soldiers reveal trailer, and the select few that have been able to try the game in person had an absolutely splendid time with it too. We are now rapidly closing in on the light at the end of the development tunnel, and we’d like to give you a quick update on where things are at and what our current plans are for release.

RAD Soldiers is WarChest’s very first title, as well as developer Splash Damage’s first mobile game. Quality is very important to both companies and we want to make sure that we get RAD Soldiers just right before we release it. One of the great advantages of being independent is that we’re not welded to an arbitrary release date, and so we’ve been spending the last few weeks with soft, clean development cloths in our hands, rubbing that extra coat of polish.

A big component of RAD Soldiers is the brand-new back-end multiplayer system we’ve built for the game. To make sure the system is up to everything we’re expecting of it, we’ve decided to stagger the release of RAD Soldiers, restricting it to a limited territory initially to give everything a proper work-out. This’ll get underway as soon as the Apple folks sign off on the game, which we expect to happen in the next week or two barring any major issues.

Once we’re happy with how things are performing in our initial territory and any issues that pop up are addressed, we’ll open RAD Soldiers up to the entire world. This kind of thing is not uncommon for multiplayer games on iOS, and we believe it’s the best way to ensure everyone has a great experience with RAD Soldiers when it’s released world-wide.

Finally, as you may or may not know, RAD Soldiers is free-to-play, which is a big change from Splash Damage’s previous games. For starters, you won’t have to pay anything to download and play RAD Soldiers, and because we absolutely hate pay-to-win mechanics, you’ll be able to achieve all gameplay-affecting unlocks during normal play. Better yet, we’ll be releasing regular updates for RAD Soldiers, adding new features, improvements and content - all based on the feedback we’re getting from you, the players. We’re very excited by this and hope you are too.

We’ll have more media, dev blogs, and game information to tide you over until RAD Soldiers hits your part of the world. We’ll also have something special for those attending Splash Damage and WarChest founder Paul Wedgwood’s keynote at Rezzed this week. Incidentally, if you’re looking forward to RAD Soldiers and haven’t got a WarChest account yet, we suggest registering one now to reserve your in-game nickname. Nothing more annoying than having to stick numbers on your name.

Keep checking back for updates and we hope to see you in RAD Soldiers when it launches!
