Brink DLC Coming Next Week, Console Title Update Out Today!

We've got several great pieces of Brink news for you today, including a release date for the "Agents of Change" DLC and a new title update for the console versions of Brink.

Agents of Change

First of all, we're delighted to be able to announce that both the Brink "Agents of Change" DLC has passed certification for the consoles and will be released on Xbox Live, PSN, and Steam on 3 August! Once it's out, you'll be able to download it for free for two whole weeks (and if you do so, you'll be able to re-download the content at no charge later on, too).

Agents of Change brings two new maps to Brink, Founders' Tower and Labs, as well as five new player abilities, two new outfits, and two weapon attachments- for more information on all the new content you'll find in the pack, check out this previous blog update. Naturally, Agents of Change also contains several new Xbox/Steam achievements and PSN trophies for you to go after.

To celebrate the impending release of Agents of Change, we've got a bunch of new screenshots showing off both Founders' Tower and Labs. You can find those sprinkled throughout this update, like so:

Xbox 360/PS3 Title Update

But that's not all! In addition to Agents of Change, we've also been hard at work on a comprehensive new title update for both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 versions of Brink. Better yet, this update is available on Xbox Live right now, with PlayStation 3 set to receive it later today. Keep on reading for some of the highlights - we've also got the full, unedited changelog at the very end of this blog.

Brink PC Multiplayer Statistics Site Up and Running

The PC statistics site for Brink is now up and running, allowing you to track all of your Freeplay statistics and fight for the Ark in the weekly Battle for the Ark metagame. The site keeps tabs on all of your completed Freeplay multiplayer matches from here on, offering detailed weapon and ability statistics, match summaries, and more. To get started, all you need to do is register an account on the site and link your Steam ID to it. A handy FAQ covering the process and a little extra is up over here.

Finally, if you're hungry for stats and own the console version of Brink, check out the Xbox and PlayStation 3 portions of the statistics site.

Splash Damage to be at Develop 2011

The Develop Conference and Expo 2011 takes place in Brighton this week and we've got a few things planned for it.

Splash Damage will have its own booth at the Develop Expo, taking place tomorrow and Thursday, where you'll be able to find out more about us and our now decade-long shenanigans in the games industry. Incidentally, we've still got a whole bunch of open positions we're looking to fill, so if you're in Brighton for Develop, come by booth C10 and see if there's anything there for you.

On the Conference side of things, Lead Writer Ed Stern will be giving an hour-long talk called Turning Ink Into Brink, taking a detailed look at games writing as well as narrative design and direction. Using Brink as a case study, it covers the entire process from beginning to end, including the initial high concept, VO work and performance capture, and the various pre-rendered cinematics. It promises to be a fascinating (and knowing Ed, a uniquely presented) look at how games writing actually works in practice.

Finally, with two nominations at this year's Develop Awards, look out for the Splash Damage table at Wednesday night's awards show, and we're also sponsoring the GamesIndustry.biz party afterwards. If you spot one of us at Develop or one of the surrounding events, don't hesitate to stop us dead in our tracks and say hello.

Develop 2011 takes place from 19 - 21 July 2011 at the Hilton Metropole in Brighton, England. For full details, tune your internet device to the official Develop website. We hope to see you there!

New Brink PC Update: Stopwatch Tweaks, MOTD, and more

We've just deployed a new game update for Brink to Steam, containing several improvements for Stopwatch mode and spectators, support for custom server info messages, and a few other goodies.

Notably, defending teams in Stopwatch have had their spawn timers increased by 10 seconds across the boards (plus you can customise your own bias here), while a new spectator HUD with objective progress, team colors, and player health bars makes it easier for those shoutcasting matches to keep up with the action. There's also a significant balance change in this update, with de-hacking being decreased by another 33%.

As before, all you have to do to receive this update is being signed into your Steam client, which then does the rest.

Alongside the client update, we've also got new dedicated server files out, allowing you to set custom welcome messages and a few other bits of information for clients connecting to your server. If you run a server, we recommend that you update it to the new version as soon as possible if you haven't already.

You can find the full changelog including all the new cvars after the break.

ESL Hosting European Challenge Tournament for Brink

The European Sports League has been firmly behind Brink since launch, and they've just announced a new tournament for the PC version of Brink - the European Challenge. This latest event is 5 on 5 Stopwatch and open to Brink players from all over Europe, with the winning teams walking away with swanky gaming hardware including SSD harddrives, SteelSeries headsets, and gaming keyboards. Sign-ups are open until the 10th of July (that's this Sunday!), with the action officially kicking off the next day.

If you want to sign yourself up or are looking for more information, head on over to the ESL's Brink European Challenge page. To find out what else the ESL has going on for Brink, check out their Brink section.

Small Brink PC Hotfix Released

We've just released a small hotfix for the PC version of Brink, addressing an issue with physics commands not being synced to all clients. Among other things, this would sometimes result in inconsistent player movement (such as crouching). You'll get the fix automatically if you're signed into Steam.

Going hand in hand with the hotfix, there's an updated version of the standalone dedicated server available as well, which you can grab via Steam's Tools tab. If you run a Brink server, we recommend that you update it as soon as possible as players with the hotfix will not be able to join it otherwise.
