Update on Brink DLC, Title Updates, and New Screenshots

Update: To clear up any potential confusion, you will be able to download the Agents of Change DLC pack for free for two weeks after it's released. If you grab it during that time, you'll permanently own the content and are able to re-download it in the future at no charge.

Original story: We're back with new details on Brink DLC and the upcoming title updates for the game.

The game's first DLC, Agents of Change, will be FREE for two weeks on Xbox LIVE, PSN, and Steam! The content is currently in submission at Microsoft and Sony, and we expect it to release in early July. As previously mentioned, the DLC features two all-new environments, five new player abilities, two new outfits, and two new weapon attachments. You can find more details in this post, and be sure to check out the screenshots above.

In tandem with the DLC, the teams at Splash Damage and Bethesda have been hard at work on the next major title update for Brink. The update is highlighted by online optimizations, AI enhancements, and weapon balance tweaks based on player feedback. As noted yesterday, a separate, incremental update is now available on PC, while players of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version of Brink can expect the full title update alongside the release of Agents of Change.

On behalf of everyone at Bethesda and Splash Damage, we want to thank all of you for your continued support of Brink. We'll be sharing more information as soon as possible.

Brink Weapon Tweaks Detailed

Alongside today's game update, the PC version of Brink also received a big bundle of weapon tweaks put together by our balancing council. Among other things, heavy weapons and grenade launchers are getting a boost, while SMGs are dialled back a bit. Very nearly everything else gets tickled with the balancing stick, as well, so there's literally something for everyone.

We are still working to bring these tweaks over to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Brink and will have more news on that soon.

Keep reading for the full list of adjustments.

New Brink PC Update Brings End Game Chat and Lots More

A brand-new update is now available for the PC version of Brink, containing a huge stack of improvements and fixes. End game chat, a new Stopwatch results screen, VoIP sliders, a fix for invisible players, networking optimizations, and a massive amount of weapon tweaks are all among the things you'll be getting in this one, and we've assembled the complete changelog for your perusal below. All you need to do to get the update is sign into Steam.

For the dedicated server admins among you, there's a new server available, too, and it's freshly optimized to cut the filesize down to a third. If you haven't already, we recommend updating your server as soon as possible - as before, players with the new update will not be able to connect to servers running the old version of Brink.

With all that out of the way, here's the full changelog for this update:

Inside, we'll examine the pre-DLC rule set that has taken hold in order to make Brink more competitively-friendly, touch on some of the European Brink competitions and give a rundown of the North American leagues and tournaments that have taken place to date.

Hack Attempts Against Bethesda's Websites

This past weekend, Bethesda's web presence was the focus of an attempted intrusion by hackers - targets of this attack may include Bethesda's own community forums, as well as the Brink statistics site. Bethesda have just released a statement addressing the situation, including a few precautions you should be taking as soon as possible if you have an account on any of Bethesda's web sites:

Over the past weekend, a hacker group attempted an unlawful intrusion of our websites to gain access to data. We believe we have taken appropriate action to protect our data against these attacks. While no personal financial information or credit card data was obtained, the hackers may have gained access to some user names, email addresses, and/or passwords. As a precaution, we recommend that all our fans immediately change passwords on all our sites - including our community forums and the statistics site we maintain for Brink players.

If your username/email address/password is similar to what you use on other sites, we recommend changing the password at those sites as well. As we don't know what further plans the hackers may have, we suggest that you keep an eye out for suspicious emails and account activity.

We regret any inconvenience that these attacks on us cause for you. These attacks will be evaluated to determine if there are any additional protections we might take that would be prudent.

An Update on Brink Updates

Just wanted to give everyone an update on where we're currently at with our upcoming game updates for Brink.

Xbox 360

We’ve been hard at work investigating the lag issues some players of the Xbox 360 version of Brink have reported. We've now completed modifications to improve network performance and will be rolling these out in a title update for the game.

This update has been submitted to Microsoft, and we expect it to be available next week.

By the Power of Netvars - Brink Gets Balance Tweaks

In addition to our on-going game updates for Brink, we've also been working on an initial bundle of balance tweaks based on the feedback we've had now that the game is out in the wild.

These tweaks are coming to all three versions of Brink and are being rolled out via our netvars. If netvars sound entirely foreign for you, they're part of a system we developed for Brink to allow us to tweak various aspects of the game without requiring you to download a full game update.

Let's have a look at what we've got in store, shall we?

Brink Statistics Site Online Now

Rejoice, perusers of statistics and bar graphs - the official multiplayer statistics site for Brink is now up and running. Located at battle.brinkthegame.com, the site is fully operational for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game, with PC support coming very soon.

What does the site offer, you ask? Well, for starters, there's the massive Battle for the Ark status screen right on the main page, allowing you to see which faction is currently winning the war for what pelgo. The battle resets every week, giving you a chance to tilt the balance in favour of your preferred side.

In addition, you can view detailed statistics for yourself and anyone else who's registered with the site. Speaking of which, you'll need your unique VIP code to create your account - you can find that under "Online Stats" in Brink's main menu.
