IGN Names Enemy Territory one of Their Top 100 Shooters

IGN have undertaken the mammoth task of compiling the Top 100 First Person Shooters of all time from all of the shooters released in the past 20 or so years. It’s great to see Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory make the list a full decade after its release, deploying in the #84 spot.
Here’s what IGN had to say about it:

Back in the dark age of the FPS, multiplayer was nothing but a bunch of people running in every direction at once with their triggers held down like savages. Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory wasn't the first game to feature objective-focused, class-based competitive play, but its free, open-sourced nature exposed a massive amount of new players to the concept, opening the door for what eventually grow into a much larger trend in multiplayer design.

You can check out the rest of the list over at IGN.

Extraction PAX Coverage Round-up!

Extraction had its public debut at the Penny Arcade Expo earlier this month, and we’ve had great feedback from players and press alike. We were especially excited to see that FPS Guru named Extraction Best Playable Game of Show, while Warp Zoned named it overall Game of Show. Coverage from the event is still rolling in, and we wanted to share some of our favourite previews and interviews from the show.

The build we had at PAX, as well as the resulting feedback from press and players, are in huge part thanks to the dedication and support of all our Closed Alpha testers – you’ve now put in several years of play time and well over 40,000 pieces of forum feedback so far. In short, you’re pretty awesome. Well done.

Right, let’s take a look at some of the coverage we’ve had so far:

RAD Soldiers arrives on PC - play it now for free!

Following its successful iOS debut late last year, RAD Soldiers is available for PC right now as a free download in the Chrome Web Store. Read on for information about the game and how to get it!

Extraction to be playable at PAX this week!

We're excited to reveal that Splash Damage is partnering with Nexon America to operate our free-to-play multiplayer shooter Extraction in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Known as Dirty Bomb during our limited Closed Alpha, Extraction is set in London, now abandoned after a mysterious radiological attack. Groups of mercenaries now fight to extract (ah ha!) the secrets left behind. Read on to find out about our new partnership with Nexon, what’s changing (hint: nothing much), and Extraction’s debut at PAX this month.

Batman: Arkham Origins multiplayer hands-on previews are here!

Want to know what Batman: Arkham Origins multiplayer is like to play? Several sites got to try their hand at a few rounds of Batman: Arkham Origins multiplayer recently, and they've written up their impressions.

Here's a slice from Destructoid:

I'm relieved to tell you that while there is a new multiplayer mode in the game and it is being developed by Splash Damage studios, "Invisible Predator" online mode is an incredibly fun and appealing addition that works within the storyline framework and is a great addition on its own merit. During a recent playthrough in the Blackgate Prison map, I got a chance to see how it all works and just how badass it is to be Batman against live players.

Announcing Batman: Arkham Origins Multiplayer

We're excited to reveal that Splash Damage is creating the multiplayer component of the eagerly anticipated Batman: Arkham Origins. This is the first time an Arkham game is set to have multiplayer of any kind, and we've put together what we think is a unique and authentic extension of Arkham's acclaimed single player.

Batman: Arkham Origins multiplayer takes the series' trademark Invisible Predator gameplay online, and allows you to play as Batman, Robin, or an elite member of The Joker or Bane's gang in exciting 3 vs 3 vs 2 multiplayer matches. Watch the official reveal trailer to see it in action:

Watch: Ed Stern Discusses Story in Games at Rezzed

Splash Damage's Lead Writer Ed Stern managed to infiltrate the "Is storytelling in games any better?" panel at this year's Rezzed, where he joined Obsidian's Chris Avellone, Bohemia's Dean Hall, Red Thread's Ragnar Tornquist, and The Indie Stone's Will Porter. Much story-driven single and multiplayer ground was covered during the hour-long session, and, best of all, you can now relive the entire thing via the video recording below:
