I use WASD, but I find mashing the keyboard with my fist to have an equally useful effect.
Just out of interest - who plays with an inverted mouse? I know I do, but I could just be strange. Must have been playing those flight simulators all those years ago.
Also, I have been toying with the idea of binding an fov toggle, does anyone find it useful? The only bind I bothered with is a \kill one, for when you just know you are not ever going to get any more ammo and you are reduced to running around waving your knife at the bad guys.

Wow i cant believe some of you guys use ARROW keys maybe its just me but that seems so hard.......

Plz i really want to see if its my keyboard or what but i have BIG hands and i still cant reach the arrow keys AND "/" or "." or "," or many of the Num keys
Kendle
5th September 2003, 10:17
I use arrow keys for movement partly because I'm left-handed and WASD would cut out too much of the keyboard, but also because that's how I've done it ever since I've been playing FPS, going back to DOOM, DukeNukem etc. where you didn't need so many keys as you do nowadays.
Anyway, my setup is:-
// Movement
// ---------------------------------------
bind UPARROW "+forward"
bind DOWNARROW "+back"
bind LEFTARROW "+moveleft"
bind RIGHTARROW "+moveright"
bind MOUSE2 "+sprint"
bind SHIFT "+moveup"
bind CTRL "+movedown"
// Weapons
// ---------------------------------------
// ALT // Class specific weapons toggle
bind MOUSE1 "+attack"
bind MOUSE3 "+reload"
bind ENTER "weapalt"
// KP_INS // Zoom Toggle
bind MWHEELDOWN "set eqptog vstr eqptg1; cg_drawgun 1; weaponbank 4"
bind MWHEELUP "set eqptog vstr eqptg1; cg_drawgun 1; weaponbank 2"
bind INS "set eqptog vstr eqptg1; cg_drawgun 1; weaponbank 1"
bind HOME "set eqptog vstr eqptg1; cg_drawgun 1; weaponbank 2"
bind PGUP "set eqptog vstr eqptg1; cg_drawgun 1; weaponbank 4"
bind DEL "set eqptog vstr eqptg1; cg_drawgun 0; weaponbank 3"
bind END "set eqptog vstr eqptg1; cg_drawgun 1; weaponbank 5"
bind PGDN "set eqptog vstr eqptg1; cg_drawgun 1; weaponbank 6"
eqptog is a Class specific toggle bound to ALT which in turn is assigned to my thumb mouse button.
I can select most weapons from the mouse, and movement is easy using the arrow keys and SHIFT for jump (fore-finger right-hand), CTRL for crouch (right-hand thumb).
Lean is "activate" (little finger left-hand mouse button) + left / right arrow keys.

On a AZERTY keyboard:
mouse1: forward
mouse2: backward
mouse3: sec. fire
mouse4/left ALT: sprint
x: left
c: right
q: jump (=a on qwerty)
w: crouch (=z on qwerty)
a: toggle prone (=q on qwerty)
left CTRL: fire
left SHIFT: reload
s: lean left
d: lean right
z: command map(=w on qwerty)
space: use
numbers above letters: change weapons
so all them on the left side of my keyboard, all my speechbinds/script keys etc are on the right side.
The movement on the mousebuttons allows to keep running while smoking or drinking with your other hand :beer:

I use seperate binds for leaning because if I use +activate i often push people, open doors, switch weapons and such when I try to lean.
Now, having the binds for leaning right by your movement keys seems kinda silly though.

I have a sneaking suspicion that playing with up meaning up and down meaning down might actually be easier. If only I could retrain my poor inverted brain.
(And I think the other sort of inverted mouse - with its little leggies in the air - is technically a trackball, and I didnt mean that at all)
(Go on, someone tell me they play with a trackball now...)

I use wasd, but I'm equally happy with any group of keys around there, or the numpad - the reason I don't use numpad is that I'd have to move my keyboard over for it to feel comfortable, and I'm lazy.
But a massive cheer for 'inverted' mouse (though the other, illogical method is the one that should properly be called inverted)! :clap:

A little keybind suggestion for panzer whores.
Bind the middle mouse button to the binoculars. Thus you can easily/rapidly zoom in from half way across the map, detect your target (who's strategically sniping behind a rock/bush/window/wall etc.) and then blast the bugger to hell.
Be prepared for aimbot accusations :moo:

(Go on, someone tell me they play with a trackball now...)
I play with a trackball. Its the bomb. Its great for LAN games since I can play on the couch without needing a book or something to support my mouse. Only think I miss is having just three mouse buttons.
Otherwise I'm using a basic WASD setup. Q and E leans, Ctrl to duck, Shift to sprint, and space to jump. F and G control text chat, V for voice binds, B activates stuff. I try to keep all the important stuff on the left side of the keyboard since I'm using a natural one.
