Depending on how Q3Map2 is compiled, one of the two will happen:
1. No change in speed.
2. Change in speed so small you can't tell anyways.

very good question dacrow ;) i`m curious what ydnar has to say about that... more optimized for p4 or still athlon xp profits from the good floatingpoint unit like in raytracing/rendering.

I haven't had time to do CPU comparisons. I use Athlon CPUs at home and at work. RAM (1 Gig or more) is as important as a fast CPU, especially when doing lighting.

Is Q3Map2 open source? If so, couldn't we download it and compile it with optimizations for our CPU? How would one even go about doing that in Windows? I remember reading something about some sort of Winmake that would let you compile stuff similar to making it in Linux.

zerowing.idsoftware.com has a fairly recent version in CVS. There are msvc projects to build everything. The 'stable' branch should build amost right out of the box.
I wouldn't expect huge improvements from compiling for your specific cpu.

I think you can download a compiler from Intel for P4 optimizations.
