I have played W:ET for a long time on my old PC, but I have recently bought a new laptop with Windows Vista on it. I tried to patch the game up to v2.60b by going into the win32 folder and running the .exe program, but an error comes up saying that the "default.cfg" cannot be found. Is this because of my OS system or because the patch is faulty.
Also, I cannot find the "default.cfg" file mentioned in the folder, so I am suspicious that it may be the problem, but the game was installed fine.
Another problem is that after I patch my game up to v2.60, the game wont even start; it gets stuck when the opening video plays.
Any help with be appreciated.

I have copied and pasted the ET.exe and ETDED.exe into the main ET folder. After running the ETDED.exe program, this is what I got:
ET 2.60b win-x86 May 8 2006

For some reason, the things listed above have com_crashed after it. When the game runs, is still crashes when the intro video plays. That is the only problem right now. Maybe it is the OS system it's running on (Win Vista)?

etded.exe is the dedicated server program, the game is et.exe
and make sure you've installed the 2.60 update before the 2.60b patch

Yes, I did patch ET.exe to 2.60 before patching up to 2.60b, and after running the game it gets stuck at the intro movie. I believe this to be because I'm running on Windows Vista, and there have been many games that have problems running on DirectX 10. Sims 2, as an example, has a patch to fix this, does W:ET have one also?

W:ET works perfectly for Vista...Mine does anyway.

try a patched installer and you'll probably have to install DirectX 9.0c as well

Shouldn't need to do that in Vista, it comes with both DX9 and DX10 out of the box.

I thought DirectX 9.0c was only for XP to emulate DirectX 10 functionality.

Dx9.0c has been out for ages, way before Dx10... Dx10 cannot be emulated on XP, at least not yet, but I believe it may never be possible fully.. maybe bits of it...
Anyway I'm running vista aswell, no problems yet. I'm not running it on Dx10 though.

I noticed I had to install DX9 for CoD 4 to work, it also fixed my ET prob on that comp (Vista Home)

update your graphics display drivers from the manufacturer's website, that's a video not audio problem in that log, try using 24 or 32 bit resolution on desktop as well

What are you trying to do setting r_stereo to 1?
r_stereo has nothing to do with sound. It sets some kind of stereo projection mode for people with 3D-goggles/glasses.
You are getting a video error btw. All sound related cvars would be s_SOMETHING, not r_SOMETHING.

Read the last line:GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem
OpenGL has nothing to do with sound in my book...
Maybe your driver has no OpenGL support?

aaah, good for you
it's still a graphic problem in that log

Well that's why Vista continues to disappoint gamers. Any game basically that ran on XP will not work very well on Vista. If you still have XP or whatever OS boot disk, try to dual boot them.
