Try to search for decompiling, it has been posted quite some times. The only thing you need for it is Q3Map2 and a good reason to do so. (Decompiled maps can only be used for reference, not to make new maps out of it without permission from the original author.)

A few things you should now about decompiling:

- Don't use it to steal stuff from someone's map if you don't have their permission. You can look at it and rebuild it, but blatantly copy/pasting is not apreciated in most cases...
- The quality of the .map file will be MUCH worse than the original map file. By that I mean for example: Textures will be unaligned, all brushes will be structural, things like that. If you want to decompile a map to add a few things and compile it again, you will be in ALOT of work.

yes you would have to actually be a quite skilled mapper just to repair the damage done by a decompile. if you are going to ask a mapper permission to decompile a map you might as well ask for the source .map instead, or at least the segment of it you are interested in

I was going to post a .bat file for decompiling but he hasn't told us his intentions

(I used it on original six maps to learn a bit :) )

Nope but the goldrush source is available, it comes with the editor, other map sources are also available by some mappers, ifurita released some of his map sources and I am sure they are few more out there.

Hi!

Yes, M8DNanite's advice is really good. Check out Drakir's map files since they are of high quality.

Also, there are maps files of a slightly lower quality available: The map called "Loffy's CTF Prefab 2" comes complete with .map file and all. You may use that .map file however you want.

Download map via this page: http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8335

Now go make great maps for us!

I haven't downloaded the link (battery) but it says in the link "convertedmap"... is this the actual battery .MAP file or is it just a decompiled version, which everyone can do...?

if it's the .MAP file i highly doubt splashdamage would approve...
