followed by another error message:
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/8765/2nderrorce4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
after clicking the OK it completely crashes... RC1 does work.

i use winxp czech lang with sp2.

great. works for me. but when i had a look on the entity list the func_button was missing, ehm where is it? all the other not-fully-working entities were on the list but only not that.
edit: common textures missing... no ladder, clip, caulk etc.

You need to download the separate ET files I think for them lot if remember correctly, try this (http://zerowing.idsoftware.com/files/radiant/nightly/1.5/ET-Example-Maps-2004-07-18.msi)
I am sure that's it but could be wrong, shouldn't hurt trying.

Tried the new version for myself, no problems so far and works well, I like the new look also. Well done to everyone involved.

but how do you select a whole entity, like func_group, ctrl+alt isnt anymore and it isnt listed in the shortcut list.

kamikazee
29th April 2007, 14:10
I believe it's Ctrl + Alt + E. See the Select menu.

murka10
29th April 2007, 14:12
k worked but now i have to do so much work, first select a brush then press a dumb combination

i am still wondering where the func_button entity has gone to, maybe if i open the gtk 1.4.0 entity file and copy it into 1.5.0

i am still wondering where the func_button entity has gone to, maybe if i open the gtk 1.4.0 entity file and copy it into 1.5.0

isn't that how it got in to 1.4 in the first place? it had to be added later as a custom entity def. i can't remember now, maybe later 1.4s came with it.

You can find a download link for a updated et_entities.ent in this thread (http://splashdamage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14335). It worked for us (eb and me) but broke some of Radiant's entity specifications. It never made it into Radiant's trunk because eb and I had other things to do instead of cleaning it up

[TFA]Violator

ok folks, some initial feedback (overall great work chaps 8)) -

Good things -
The plugins aren't duplicated 4 times :)
texture browser much nicer
UI looks/behaves nicer
Rotate tool is very nice once u get used to it

Bad things
Can't find how to shear brushes any more (ctrl + drag in 1.4)?
Using arrow keys to move - theres a keyboard delay before it starts sometimes
Vertex manipulation is a little odd - eg adjusting height of terrain triangles it tends to move vertices around the selected one (horizontally as well as vertically)
Can't see how to set rotation lock (eg force 45' steps)

Yes - I don't have it either in 1.4 (or a few other things)

Violator]Can't find how to shear brushes any more (ctrl + drag in 1.4)?I don't know if there's still a shortcut to do that, but you might do it enabling "Face select mode", then dragging the face to where you want it to be.

[TFA]Violator
1st May 2007, 11:31
I think I tried that - it just started shifting the texture around (quite useful though in itself)

chr1s
1st May 2007, 11:37
I am not sure if this is what you want but try pressing E and that allows to to drag the edges. Pressing Q allows you to alter the brush size and W allows you to to like move the brush around but in straight lines kind of, hard to explain.

[TFA]Violator
1st May 2007, 21:27
E, then shift-drag to multi-select seems to do the trick - nice 1 :) (bit more long-winded though..)

now that iv been using 1.5 for 3 days i have seen some things i dont like and some things that i like very much:

when altering vertices, i select one and drag it but it wants to constrain the shape or sth and moves another one i have not selected(can this be turned off?)

the new texture browser has a cool feature for tags but how can i select like a feature SHOW ALL TEXTURES, with gtk.14 i went to textures/textures which is the full textures folder, this sometimes helps me look for textures before i make my own.

when i want to select a brush and put it into an existing entity i cant find how, there is no "move into entity" function.

sometimes i want so select multiple faces fast but if i hold the keys and drag it will draw a rectangle and select every one even those that are inside or behind other brushes(can it be switched, a keyboard pressing?)

but inspite of all the things i dont like this new version rocks!

murka10
2nd May 2007, 17:09
i have another problem. some brushes are just not displayed in radiant, i can see them in 1.4 but not in 1.5
i just copied some places and suddenly i cant see them, i made a new brush, dragged vertices and it too disappeared.

and how can i select a sincle verticle, without pulling one another moves, i cant make complicated shapes.

chr1s
2nd May 2007, 17:34
Make sure you haven't filtered anything, goto View/Filter and check the list.

See here...

http://zerowing.idsoftware.com/files/radiant/docs/1.5/

It explains how to move brushes into an entity and lots of other things.

murka10
3rd May 2007, 14:21
i have nothing filtered, i just copy and paste or make a worldspawn brush that is nothing different than the others, i still think its a bug.
and simple things are made so complicated now, like select one full entity, selecting multiple faces(now i have to click each one cuz i cant kick away the dumb drag function). and the new vertex dragging really pisses me off.

[TFA]Violator
3rd May 2007, 15:02
i have another problem. some brushes are just not displayed in radiant, i can see them in 1.4 but not in 1.5
i just copied some places and suddenly i cant see them, i made a new brush, dragged vertices and it too disappeared.

I've had a similar problem - a load of brushes vanished from my terrain on loading into 1.5, like 'brush cleanup' had been run (even though the brushes are valid, and I didn't manually run brush cleanup). They were still gone though when going back to 1.4 (luckily I made a backup before any of this :))

I also have the problem moving a single vertex in the 3d view (though selecting the vertex in 3d and moving it in the 2d windows works better than 1.4). I generally only use it to tweak terrain in the Z-axis, but in 1.5 it tends to split the vertex below into 4 (I will post a screeny to show this when I get home)

murka10
3rd May 2007, 16:39
and when i just moved one edge to form a simple shape, it had such a big tris hell :o, ill give a screen for this
http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/5653/shot0002iy7.th.jpg (http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=shot0002iy7.jpg)
i think i dragged edges here, so both verticle and edge dragging is totally broken. plz give back the 1.4 way, if u can.

If you use teleports in the map, dont switch between 1.4 and 1.5 because it will be a complete mess. Trigger brushes will be lost, and all of the teleport_misc will aim at each other throught the middle unknown teleport entity.

murka10
3rd May 2007, 17:26
hmm im using them and both versions but this never happened. my teleports work well.
another problem, always when i select every brush making one entity (like script_mover) and delete them, the brushes are gone but the entity remains at the center of the map.

==Troy==
3rd May 2007, 17:47
This happens when you create them as well... I just ignore it.

But teleport are evil... It happens irregulary...

Still I like 1.5 . :)

Shaderman

and the new vertex dragging really pisses me off.
There seems to be only one thing regarding Radiant that works perfectly - nobody complained about that part yet... the uninstaller...

chr1s
3rd May 2007, 18:07
Yeah, no one if forcing you to use 1.5 if you don't like the changes go back to 1.4.
I've been using 1.5 ever since it was beta and never had any real problems with it. Sure it does things differently than before but once you get used to it I think it works out better than how 1.4 managed certain things.

EB
3rd May 2007, 18:34
...it is a thankless, payless job Mr. Shaderman.

Maybe an extra install warning would be good:
"You are about to install radiant 1.5. It is not the same as 1.4, it does several things better and a few things ...not as good. If you want to complain, please go in your closet and scream in a pillow.

Otherwise, if you have a legitimate bug report, please let us know.
...if you do not know how to search, research or bug report your issue and you need help, just E-mail: Someonewhocares@noonedoes.com "

Enough sarcasm ?

jump3r^
3rd May 2007, 19:59
well, i also use 1.5 since its beta releases and i have had no extra problems so far, except this final version, which unfortunately doesnt work for me (as i described on the first topic page and seems like nobody cares).
however, it's still much better than the old 1.4 version.

[TFA]Violator
3rd May 2007, 20:09
After a bit more playing around I can see why the vertex manip does what it does and is pretty cool tbh - it actually prevents illegally shaped (convex) brushes by extruding other edges to make it concave. If you select vertices which will cause a 'legal' move then it works ok. Once you realise this it is actually way better than 1.4 (which wasn't too good at 2d window vertex manipulation) -

1) Typical triangular terrain brush (right-angle corner lowered)

http://www.violator.eclipse.co.uk/ET/img/misc/v1.jpg
http://www.violator.eclipse.co.uk/ET/img/misc/v4.jpg

2) Selecting one top vertex and doing horizontal drag in XZ window, brush stretches to preserve concaveness -

http://www.violator.eclipse.co.uk/ET/img/misc/v2.jpg

2) Selecting the top vertex and the one below it and dragging works ok -

http://www.violator.eclipse.co.uk/ET/img/misc/v3.jpg
http://www.violator.eclipse.co.uk/ET/img/misc/v5.jpg

Hope that made some kind of sense :D

Further to the missing brushes problem, here are screenies of the same map in 1.4 and in 1.5 -

1.4
http://www.violator.eclipse.co.uk/ET/img/misc/14ter.jpg

1.5
http://www.violator.eclipse.co.uk/ET/img/misc/15ter.jpg

I'm guessing 1.5 thinks they are invalid and stripping them out? Note I didn't do any editing here, it just loads like that.

Hope all this is helpful to the shaderman and co :)

kamikazee
3rd May 2007, 21:41
1.5 has automated brush clean-up built in, if that wasn't obvious by now.

What happens when you would do a brush cleanup in 1.4? Do they survive the sweep in that case?

EB
3rd May 2007, 22:22
jumper, I think this will be looked into very soon,

I suggest getting a pre-final version for yourself until this is cleared.

Actually i Love 1.5 and have used it for over a year now.

I don't have the latest build as it gives me an error but i use the October 12th Release which works fine for me.

The only thing i have had to use 1.4 for is the "Thicken" command.

Anyway's, just want you guys to know i appreciate the work you have done on 1.5.

Violator]Hope all this is helpful to the shaderman and co :)
Some things might be better now if there would have been feedback linke yours earlier instead of the usual feedback like "where's the Z-window?" or "why do things work different in 1.5?" Anyway, good feedback [TFA]Violator but it's too late. For those who still didn't read the qeradiant.com (http://www.qeradiant.com) announcement:
After a very long and exhausting development phase GtkRadiant is ready for a major release. There are many more things which could have been done better or could have been fixed, but without a development team it is not possible or sane to support GtkRadiant any longer.
I hope it explains...
...which unfortunately doesnt work for me (as i described on the first topic page and seems like nobody cares)....why nobody cares.

...why nobody cares

As a (c#) coder myself with continual tight deadlines for customers and never
enough staff/time to meet them I know exactly where you are coming from - I'm sorry that its had to come to such a sticky end :( the qeradiant site was down for a while so I didn't realise it had been totally canned :x

What happens when you would do a brush cleanup in 1.4? Do they survive the sweep in that case?

It wasn't obvious, but it is now I guess :) 1.4 manual clean does kill them off. Is there an option to turn this feature off? It would be nicer to be able to fix my dodgy brushes rather than recreating them (which is espectially painful with terrain as I'm not sure how it will affect the alphamap merging in new brushes after the effect into the func_group?)

Strange stuff - I selected one of the 'offending' brushes in 1.4 (which wasn't cleaned by 1.4 btw), snapped one of the vertices to the grid and saved. Loaded the map into 1.5 and behold none of the brushes were culled :o

To anyone getting the same error as Jump3r^:

1. Uninstall Radiant
2. open "my computer" > go to: TOOLS > FOLDER OPTIONS > VIEW > and select "Show Hidden Files and Folders". Exit those windows.
3. Go to your Application Data folder (example: C:\Documents and Settings\e\Application Data ) and delete the "Radiant Settings" folder.
4. Go to your Radiant Install Location (C:\Program Files\GtkRadiant 1.5.0) and delete the "GtkRadiant 1.5.0" folder and any remaining files(or move them).
5. Reinstall GtkRadiant

Note: This is the safe way to solve this issue, I would rather be thorough than not thorough enough.

Cheers

1.4 suits better for me, and 1.5, when i compiled one piece it didnt show it, like that brush didnt exist(well some faces were drawn and sometimes half of the top face was drawn). but with 1.4 it compiled correctly(i know its q3map2 not gtk).
press F (face mode) - then you can ctrl-shift select the faces
i meant that i want to select faces that i can see not those that are behind others, and i want to select faces fast, like 1.4, but nvm, im using 1.4

btw i had a problem, when i compiled with 1.5 i got the sv_setbrushmodel null, i looked and looked but found nothing, then compiled with 1.4 and it was fine.

I noticed some weird behaviour when i first used 1.5 today!

I opened a map of my own, selected 4 entities (two trigger_fagonly_multiple's, a team_CTF_redflag and team_CTF_blueflag) and copied them (Ctrl + C)

Then opened another map, and pasted them in (Ctrl + V)

I noticed that a "1" was added to the value of "targetname" in these 4 entities! :S
For example, targetname in old map was "flag", after copy/pasting to new map it was "flag1", and my map stopped working obviously...

The 'old' map (from which i copy pasted) was made in 1.4 btw, the new one in 1.5...

murka10
11th May 2007, 18:40
this si supposed to be like a adding function, if you have one scripted thing and you want to make another, i found it useful a little but again, shoul have an off switch.

Flippy
12th May 2007, 12:57
Oh I see... well if it´s an "adding" function it should work like an adding function :P Eg only add the "1" when it's needed (when there's already the same targetname maybe?) and maybe give a notification when it's changed, so you know that it happened and don't spend hours looking for such a small error...

EB

Anyway, seomthing else... Might be a stupid question but what happened to "Move into worldspawn" in the rightclick menu??

Do the same thing as you would move brush into other entities as discussed before but parent it to worldspawn. Ungroup Entity also works but clears everything associated with the entity.

I installed today the newest (26.04.2007) 1.5.0 and I have to say it makes me even more love 1.5.0. There is only one thing I'd like to get rid of since it makes 2d window more complex. It's this thing where it says the entity names in the 2d. Like func_constructible etc. How to get rid of it?
