Gangs4Life is a gang modification for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.
The main goal for Gangs4Life is to be a fictional gang mod in the 20th century for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
where you will be able to play with gangs against each other.
Some features:
- Drivable Cars
- Ironsight for some weapons
- Melee Attack
- Helicopters
- Bikes and Motorbikes
and a lot of more features..
The Gangs where you will play with are going
to be the "Mafia" vs "Les Bandas"( a gang formed by
an old mafia leader and some other gang leaders).

somebody ought to write a book on the reasons why mods fail. one of the topics would be "asking too much for suggestions". or maybe this one would fall into the "not having a clear goal" chapter, i'm not sure.

A mafia implementation of the game could be interesting, if it featured traffic, npc policemen and citizens which you could rob/mug. You know, just to add a twist to the basic team vs team play mode.

I've thought about a similar mod, and I think the single greatest thing to make a game like this work would be the driving/fighting mechanic (drive-by's).
We've all seen regular infantry type gameplay, but never a decent car versus car gameplay mechanic. The closest is something like Battlefield games, but military vehicles are too powerful versus infantry and can be killed easily by the plethora of explosive devices.
I envision 4 players in a car that can shoot through their windows, in a car that can't be killed easily. The car players would have the same firepower as on foot, but with the mobility of the vehicle. This would not simply dominate other infantry players, but change tactics. Taking out any explosives other than maybe molotav cocktails would help cars live longer, and hopefully make them more of a fighting vehicle rather than a kamikazee machine or for transport and then dumped ala Battlefield.
One gametype I thought of was Drive By. Team A attacks using cars while Team B must stand around an inner city type house completely surrounded by streets. You can only go on the porch of the house, but not in it, and one Team B player is the 'leader' that Team A must kill. The leader cannot ever totally hide since the house is surrounded by streets, and Team A must perform driveby's and kill the leader, while Team B protects him.
Another gametype, Hoods is just like GTA's missions where you must capture all the hoods. This could easily be made into a Battlefield type conquest gametype, with different cars available in different hoods.

Your drive-by idea is a quite good idea actually. I've been thinking of something like that already. I don't want to make it to much battlefield,
I still want to have good gameplay :P
BTW: I'm not always going to let them fight on the streets, otherwise it would become very boring.
About the gametype idea, it fits quite well but what would you do if your leader is afk?
Everyone has to protect him but when that guy is afk or has connection interrupted ,the leader can't be protected very well.
Maybe these suggestions?
* People can vote for another leader
* A script that will make someone else leader when a player stands still for 20 seconds
I've been thinking about another game mode to where team A has to escort a car with money
in it (or drugs) from place A to place B and team B has to stop team A from escorting the truck to place B.
Team B can stop them by escorting it to place C. (their base)

A third team of cops wouldn't fit well, the gameplay would be more battlefield if you add something like that.

it's GTA, who cares about that crap, it's not even a good driving game, it's just little "Gangstar" wannabes thinking the Music video hip-hop lifesyle is real life, their favorite movie is "Scarface", I just don't get it, the idea for a true racing game is great, I'm all for it. The whole gangsta mentality really pisses me off, it's stealing the ambition from today's youth, I see so much of it, it makes me want to arm my daughters

It isn't GTA because its a totally FICTION mod :disgust:. I'm going to make the gameplay more like ET:QW where you have to fight
sometimes on the street BUT you will also have to fight indoor.
You don't have to ride the whole time in a city with a car to win the match if you think that's what you need to do.
The maps will be objective-based like ET:QW, I can say for sure that I won' destroy the gameplay that ET:QW will have.
I know it will need to have good gameplay and it will be difficult to make it playable but I wouldn't make something if it isn't playable.
BTW; If you don't like someone's mod idea then you don't need to destroy a mod before you have seen something.
And btw: Do you say that the mafia is Hip-hop style? :D The mod isn't a hip-hop style game, it's a QW with other teams, weapons and vehicles.

Although the theme of this mod didnt initially jump out at me, i do think there is a need for a mod like this. I may or may not enjoy it when it comes out, but i would encourage the mod creators. Otherwise i wont know.
Im interested too know the type of maps you had in mind.
And how about The Hit game type. A member of each team is randomly selected as the hit (target). If they die thier team loses. Other team members respawn.
Maybe the hit would have a larger health, body armour etc..

If one dies, they lose and someone else becomes a target.

What about something like FASA's Shadowrun gameworld? I've never understood why no-one has made that it into a computer game yet.
Would make it a little different than "another GTA clone".

I was thinking of a more open gameplay moving from building to building or just about anywhere, kind of hide n seek with guns. Bang your it!
You would probably have to mix this with some objectives too prevent camping.
The way Hakuryu says it kind of reminds me of SWAT, eventually attackers would move in unless you force them to sit in the cars.
Sorry Hakuryu, i will now go away and commit origami.

still think a mad max inspired mod would be great, you could make gangs/teams based on the ones seen in the films and try make some decent vehicle on vehicle combat with the cars and buggies used in the films with cross bow attachments to bust the tires on other cars and odd bits of metal to throw at other cars' windshields to obscure their view when the glass shatters, assuming a first person view is used.
As for the idea being discussed, you'll need alot of fresh ideas to make it work and not turn into what people are allready assuming, another gta clone. Hope you can pull it off.

I also think Mad Max would make for a great mod, with one exception. There is hardly any ammo whatsoever in any of the movies, and if you gave people enough to actually gunfight, then vehicles would be taken down too easily. I doubt people would want to play a game where they had maybe 5 shotgun shells and that is it per spawn. I don't think a good shooter could be made out of the movies, but maybe something different like a driving skill and teamwork game. Like escaping with the fuel truck in #2, but players must maneuver into position, jump on the fuel truck, and then perform something ala an objective to stop the truck maybe.

It will be a complete waste of time, there are already so many mafia, mob boss, GTA styles games out there, there is no point in making a "gantsa" mod for ET:QW.
Melee attack/weapons. would be useless it, it will be just like Battlefield series running at some one with a knife while they point an AK at you, personally i love when people try to do that just adds another kill to the list.

Their has never been a (popular) FPS objective game with gangs ever so it won't be a clone from anything. :roll:

i just cant see an objective based gang mod working, melee weapons will be useless, running around in real life cars will look stupid.
there are just so many things that will be no good.

But I think a film noir like 30's to 50's Police vs. Gangs could be pretty cool.
Objectives could be to smuggle alcohol, a bank robbery or to free imprisoned gang members.

Perhaps later in a final version , but I am currently making a new site and everything will be updated there with new things(gamemodes etc,...). :idea:
