Very nice, indeed. And I know, I know ... the site is not updated by Splashdamage and 'Nothing is final yadda yadda yadda.', but two things made me curious so I'll try to get some information anyway:
- The website states that the anti-missle turrets on both sides parry ALL fire support the field op is capable of launching - so far I thought it would only be the SSG and the Hammer missle would be destroyed before impact.
- Additionaly it also states that the homing missles of the GDF anti-vehicle turret 'will impact with any target, no matter how severe evasive action it takes' - true?
I know I won't get any real answers, but it's worth a try... :moo:

Nice to see things getting finalized. I'm sure tweaks will occur, but if they put it up then I'm fairly sure the classes, vehicles and deployables are final.
One thing I never noticed before, but thought upon reading the Covert Ops class description... it says the Strogg covert can possess a body to infiltrate, but nowhere in the GDF description does it say a Covert Ops can 'steal a uniform'. I play alot of Covops in ET, and if the GDF can't disquise then I'm a bit disappointed.
I'm glad to see there is some protection available versus area of effect attacks like the missiles. Parachuting out of a Bumblebee sounds cool too.

Take the text on the site with a pinch of salt. It's mostly in the right direction, but the site exists to promote the game, not present a 100% accurate description of what's currently in the game (or what will be when it gets released).
The GDF anti-missile turret will shoot any Strogg bombardment out of the sky before it impacts. This includes the smaller, more rapid-firing Mortar and Howitzer. However, you can't exactly shoot an orbital laser out of the sky, so the Violator is unaffected (and coincedentally does quite a large amount of damage to turrets... who would have guessed?).
Missiles have a turning radius as you'd expect, but you'll have to be either very close to the turret when it launches, or put cover between you and the missile to stand a chance of evading it. Bear in mind that if you can't evade, you can still launch decoys.
The GDF Covert Ops can disguise like his Wolf ET predecessor.

Fat lots of good that does him... running around in WWII gear, with a soft little hat on. He'd be much more useful if he could disguise like one of the Strogg.
But, otherwise, since our favorite class, engie has so many deployables at his disposal, is it true that he can only have one deployed at a time?

That's odd. In the tutorial trailer, the transport helo is referred to as the "Buffalo", but on the site it is the "Bumblebee"

I hope they put "enemy in de skies" back in Quake Wars. Because now they really will be in de skies.
Oh, and I prefer Bumblebee. Buffalo doesn't sound right for something that flies. Except Buffalo wings, perhaps...

But it doesn't look like a bumblebee. Maybe it flies and handles like one, but it *looks* like a buffalo. Well, a bison, to be more precise. Yeah, it doesn't look like a buffalo, it looks like a bison.

Hey Wils, if you're willing to answer a question that I've been curious about for a while.. Can GDF soldiers still deploy their heavy weapons for others?
Wils
9th October 2006, 16:02
Strogg undies: dear god no
Prone on canister: currently yes/at release, probably
One deployable at a time: yes, for all classes which deploy
Buffalo/Bumblebee: it's actually been called the Bumblebee all game, but the name changed to Buffalo for a brief period during E3. It's back to Bumblebee now. Yes, it does look more like a Bison. No, Buffalo don't fly.
GDF Soldier weapon mounting: no - devalued the class' role.

Thanks for the answers. Out of curiosity, it seems like we're getting a lot of information lately.. could the dev team have hit a milestone? :???:

I'm wondering as well if this new flow of information's gotta mean anything... let's hope for the best.
Out of pure curiosity of the story/background (Locki just emphasized how important that is in DevDiary #3 ;)):
How can the covert ops disguise as a strogg?
I mean, the strogg soldiers are created from human - or human-like beings (we saw it in Quake 4, although it takes place later), so we can assume that they already have an understanding of human physiology when attacking earth (in Quake 4 it's shown how they do further research and 'produce' soldiers). With this knowledge and their advanced technology it makes sense infiltrators are capable of disguising themselves as fallen gdf soldiers.
According to what I've read (please correct me if I'm wrong :)) earth didn't know of the strogg at the time of the invasion. I doubt that the gdf had the technology to cut a fallen strogg out of his armor - even if, how would a covert ops wear it without artificially improved limbs and still be able to fool other stroggs? Apart from that I thought that the strogg would recognise each other through the implanted neural chip - and kill/capture anything they don't recognise (well, maybe that will have the effect that you don't see disguised enemies on the command map)...
It's not that I really care about that. The most important thing is gameplay, so the backgroundstory can be bended to fit. Yet I do wonder... :nag:

They replace their brains with the Human ones , than leave their old strogg bodies dead , like the medics do to make spawns from humans.

I see your point but then, you don't watch enough Art Attack my dear friend. Just fold some cardboard, paint it glitter and you can fool anyone. Glue microchips from the 22nd century here and there and your disguise is complete.

Hehe, yea, I figured that it would be something like that, it's 'realistic' within the scenario.
What I ask myself is how the covert ops - not the infiltrator - manages to disguise himself, not the infiltrator... although I see that I didn't think of the department of art attack within the gdf, they're incredible...
