How does this Spawn host thingie work?

I believe it is something along the lines of: GDF player killed -> Strogg technician turns him into a spawn host -> becomes available as a spawn point -> first strogg player to select it in limbo will spawn there

amirite?

EDIT: Though you can also select them in the game world if you are near them.

But can u also gib the body so that it cant be used as spawn host??

I'm guessing it'll be like stealing a uniform in W:ET, the body must be gibbed to create a spawn host.

Thanks for your answers, but 2 more questions I need to ask now =)

1.Do the GDF have something similar?
2.If not will it not be a bit unbalanced?
Say for instance a Strogg Technician kills and gibs a GDF at main objective and tells a team mate to spawn as a Soldier, and then they blow up the whole 'shobang' and wins.

1)No
2)No

Thats why the team are spending extra time balancing the game, the teams are asymmetric, meaning that they are nothing like each other but it is a fine balance to get the game to work. Most previews of the game, from E3/Leipzig etc, have been very promising and we all have faith in SD here. If SD were going to release an unbalanced, buggy, futuristic shooting game they would have been beaten to the punch by EA/DICE ;)

I wonder: Will spawn hosts enable 'instant' spawning (the moment you select it in the limbo/world you spawn) or are they bound to the reinforcement timer?

I guess the latter one - but I just want to be sure... ;)

digibob, could you please use an ET analogy to explain this Spawn host thingie? :)

Sorry, no specifics at this time. Nothing is final yadda yadda yadda.

One day ETQW will be known for that sentence like the duke is known for 'When it's done' - wether it'll be with or without 'yadda yadda yadda' is yet to be determined... :nag:

I wouldn't count on those. Most guys didn't have much time to play the game in every single aspect. And I doubt anyone considered testing the spawn host thing intensively.

Man the spawnhost thing will be completely in balance with the game. Each side has different capabilities and the balancing is being worked on as we speak. (Well not literally as we speak because its Digibobs turn to host the slumber party and he has decided chocolate sauce is best to use...) The game will be balanced is all I'm saying.

In SD we trust.

But then it would be possible to trow a nade onto a fallen gdf were the body explodes and cant be used as spawn host.
What u also could do is when a body is laying there waiting to be used as spawnhost.
Wait till it respawns and "spawnkill" the strogg.
I am curoious how SD solves this complex issue!!

ayatollah

Its not that complex...yes you could "spawnkill" the Strogg that spawns there but what do you want SD to do about that?

And if the body is exploded then a spawnhost could not be created only if the body is gibbed* and is still laying there. You make it sound more complicated than it is.

*(not in the literal Quake term, ie, an explosion of body parts, but in the W:ET terms of killing the body out so no revive is possible. Just think of a Cov Ops in W:ET and you see how it works.)

In northern Scandinavia we hunt elks at this time (autumn). I do not but some collegaues do. Skilled hunters sometimes wait until they shot to get the elk body where they want, i.e. not in a bad place (lake, swamp etc).
I guess the skill to put down a gdf in the right spot (e.g. behind a corner or other protected spawn location) will become significant in etqw?
elks, gdf, same thing.

If it works like the Cov ops in ET then imho it will be very unbalanced and people will (ab)use it very much.

Imagine a match 6 vs 6.
Fierce fight at main objective.
The last Strogg technician manage to kill the last GDF.
The GDF get a looong spawn and Stroggs spawn in the next second.

One Strogg spawns as Soldier 1 meter from main objective and plants it and Stroggs win.
This is without the GDF can prevent it or counter it in anyway.

Hopefully I have misunderstood it =)

Well, that's the thing: We don't know for sure if it'll be instant to spawn there or if you'll spawn with the next wave of reinforcements.
Sorry, no specifics at this time. Nothing is final yadda yadda yadda.

Either way, we have to remember that ETQW was delayed also because SD wanted to take extra time to play uhhm... balance the game, so I'm pretty confident that however it turns out to be, it will be balanced.

it could be abused in this way but there is many free room for new ideas for the developers... there could be included completely new aspects don't insistence on the ones you know

i think they will balance it kinda good ... *trust SD*

Here's how it works...

A GDF is downed and killed out.
A Strogg Technician walks up and whips out his needle/implement to create a Spawn Host.
He sticks the implement into the fallen GDF and must wait a few seconds before a spawn host is created.
Once created the first Strogg that picks that spawn and is dead for the next round of reinforcements spawns there.
The spawn host is destroyed and noone else can spawn.
The spawn host can only take 1 spawn from 1 Strogg.

How can this be abused? It is a feature that a lot of teams will use but it will have its downfalls too.

Say the whole strogg team is wiped out and they are all about to spawn. One of the Strogg has chosen a spawn host. The Strogg spawn back but one spawns forward where the GDF have camped and have a direct crossfire on the Strogg. The Strogg is dead in seconds and the Strogg team are a man down coming in on the attack.

(The above description of the spawn host is by no means the way it will work. This view is mine and mine alone and is in no way reflected by SD. My views however are the way spawn hosts should work so get it sorted SD and give me my royalties!)

I'll just have to trust SD and wait for QW to be release =)

I definitely think that the 'pending strogg spawn host" should be attackable, so that if you blow up the body, they are forced to spawn back normally.
