RIP Map-Center

This weekend one of the mapping community's long standing resources went offline, probably forever - www.map-center.com.

A great site for tutorials, textures and general info for many games (including Quake 3, ST Elite Force, RTCW and ET to name a few).

If you were mapping in the days before Enemy Territory came along, then you probably visited Map-Center for help on some topic.

There has been rumour for some time that it would be going offline because of time constraints by the Admins, but it still it remained active and alive and some members expressed interest in porting the content over to another website.

This past weekend the site was hacked and became unusable, and this morning it is down for the count - only a small Toe-tag with yesterdays date. :(

So here's to Map-Center - one of the community's best.

How was the site was hacked and became unusable? Thumbs up for your site though, it was probably very popular and you did great hard work on it.

Map-Center wasn't mine - I was just one of many forum members.

I noticed the hack Saturday morning - the site loaded briefly with a defaced home page and then it was redirected to the hackers website.

Punks with nothing else to do. :angry:

Much as I liked mapcenter and appreciate the time Astro and others put into it, the time had come, IMO. So a :drink: to map-center and another for the new things to come.

Astro had another site started, maybe he will focus his time on getting that site "rolling".
We'll have to see.

Otherwise...
www.map-craft.com and www.leveldesign.nl have most of the same moderators/admins from map-center.

it was born, then booming, to a slow death, Dead, supposed to go offline, stayed online but dead, hacked, super-dead - even with toe tag, now reviving .. ????
WTH ? I wish that Astro guy would make up his mind....Makes me think of a W:ET player's lifecycle.
Spawned, running, going into a firefight, waiting for a med, limbo'd, getting your pants stolen and then respawn.
