If your system sucked before you tweaked it will still suck after you tweak.

I had the same problem.
If you use XP run ET in Win2k compaitibility mode.
That fixed it for me.

Hope it helps you.

ola,
have the same probs.
my system P III 1,1 GHz
512 RAM
radeon 9500 pro 128mb
windows 2000

inside I have very high frames till 130
outside its goes down under 15, if more people are fighting each other.
rtcw, battlefield etc I could play on highest settings with good constant frames inside and outside of the levels :( :disgust:

try to set yout hunkmegs higher, might helps.

Real bottleneck for your system is system bus and ram. I OCd my Athlon xp1800+ up to 166x13 = 2.17 ghz w/ 333 FSB. My g3 ti500 went from low FPS outside to a rarely dips below 40 @1024x768, 32bit color/texture etc.
Made all the difference, so unfortunately you may have to sacrifice resolution and color/texture depth just to sustain decent frames, even w/ a card as good as 9500/9600 pro.

Hunkmegs may actually be too high. More is not always better. Paraphrasing from various sources, hunkmegs has to do with reserving a certain amount of system ram for the game to hold player models and textures.

How much ram do you have?

Here some excerpts from the manual, maybe you missed them:
- Performance Boosters

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory allows you to customize your settings so that you can improve the visuals or decrease them. Some of them have a greater impact on performance than others. Below are some settings that will improve your performance, but at the expense of the visuals:

1. Set the system options to 'Fastest'
2. \com_maxfps (set to a high number i.e 400)
3. \cg_atmosphericeffects 0
4. \cg_wolfparticles 0
5. \r_fastsky 1
6. \r_picmip 3
7. \cg_drawgun 0

Be aware that there are servers that force certain values via PunkBuster (e.g. cg_atmosphericeffects=1)

3. Allocating Memory Using com_hunkmegs:
========================================

The command com_hunkmegs is used to increase or decrease the size of memory used by the game. By default it is set to 72 megabytes (MB), which allows the game to easily run on computers with 128 MB of RAM. If your system has more than 128 MB of RAM, you can adjust this value to allow better performance.

For example: If you have a machine with 256 MB of RAM you can use the command \com_hunkmegs 192 to allocate more memory to the program. You do this by accessing the game console (press the ~ key), and typing in:

\com_hunkmegs 192

Then press Enter.

(Substitute the amount of memory that you would like to dedicate for the "192" in the example above).

NOTE: You should never allocate more than 3/4 (75%) of your total system memory. You may experience problems with your computer system if you do. If you have also increased the amount of memory being allocated for sound, make sure that the total of com_hunkmegs and com_soundmegs is not greater than 3/4 (75%) of your total system memory.

Please refer to the Dedicated Server document for an example of how to alter com_hunkmegs on dedicated servers.

I had the same problem.

That fixed it for me.

Hope it helps you.

Putting it in win2k mode froze up my system, I had never previously had a crash since the test until now. I don't recommend doing this. :bash:
