Some Sense Please Moderator!!!

Hi,

I've been using the SD forums since they first came online, but since the release of ET things have just gone so downhill!

Can a moderator please start moderating!

Reading some of the post it's starting to become like the HP flame forum. Is there really any need for that here?

I have been removing certain posts, but I've tended to leave threads alone unless they really start getting ugly.

That said, if you'd prefer a more moderated forum, we can do that - what does everyone else think?

If someone has an opinion(well thought out not just some 10 yr old flaming on daddy's pc) we dont like, thats ok. If they are just flamers like....unstoppable then I say yes delete their threads and ban em. Take out the trash.

My rule of thumb for moderating forums has always been that constructive criticism is welcome, incessant rambling whining in a language that isn't completely english is not. Some people like ET, some don't. Some like the changes from RTCW, some don't. Still: let them speak their mind.
But please remove those that are here just to whine, bitch and complain and piss as many people off as they can along the way. (Ie Skybuck and his wing mates)

These are SplashDamage forums, you rule them as you see fit. Freedom of speech is not a god given right on private forums, there is something to be said about a benevolent dictatorship...

Got to agree with =MLK=FOO...

It's Ok for the odd off topic thread and for, shall we say, "comical" flames... But some the topics are just getting out of hand. I don't want to have to come on here and read stuff like this (http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1757).

Users should be IP banned that just come on here to bad mouth other players, or claim to be the greatest players around. There are plenty of other forums for people like this, and I would hate to see the SD forums being brought down to the lowest common denominator..

I'm going to have to concur with what most have said here. It's never fun to be a 'forum nazi', but sometimes it is needed. We have clearly seen a few individuals put their troll suits on and parade around these forums. It's one thing to have a difference of opinions... it's another to be a troll. If nothing else maybe just lock posts that are on their way down the drain? Not too sure if totally removing posts is necessary, but sometimes it can be necessary. I think locking is a better method so people can see what NOT to do.

There's no need - this is a forum for mappers and discussion about ET/RtCW, not for spam. If you want to spam, go and use a forum that encourages it.

I agree with DeMoNeye. These forums have purposes and flaming is not among those. Certain users are posting nothing but garbage. They waste bandwidth, time and space. I think that a ban is not out of line; in fact, I'd say a ban is in order. It is a privilege to interact with the game developers and mapping community - it is not a right.

Yep... then its settled. Its a privilage to intereact with the game developers... so leave it up to them as to what they feel should be deleted or who should be banned. Its their bandwidth and space. This isn't a mapping forum btw ..theres another one for that.

Yes. The problem just seems to be getting worse and worse. Removing posts isn't enough, some people here (skybuck, Unstoppable) need banning. I understand the whole "don't feed the trolls" thing, but I don't see why the rest of us should step around them when they could very easily be removed.

For what it's worth, forums and the types of discussions they foster, are a direct reflection of the owners and the values to which they subscribe. Allowing hateful, senseless, and abusive posting from the aforementioned people puts Splash Damage in a poor light. At best, it says that you are unwilling to do anything about it. At worst, it says that you condone such behavior.

I, as do most of the others, know that Splash Damage are a group of professionals with high standards and allowing this type of behavior on your forums is far far beneath you guys.

Please do something about it, if for nothing else, your own reputations.

FWIW, I haven't seen anything from the two problem children that wasn't an obvious and blatant troll. Since they both claim to hate the game and not play it, I don't see how getting banned from this forum would be any inconvenience for them, and it would certainly improve the signal-to-noise ratio.

Maybe people should make less of an effort to swallow the bait, and hence aviod taking the hook, line and sinker with it. Troublemakers might have some growing up to do but maybe people should be mature in responding (or rather, not responding) to it.
