View Full Version : Fake server?

Hi

Lately I keep seeing the same server popping up at the top of the ingame server browser when it is sorting after players. It always has 63 of 64 slots in use, ping seems ok, running etpub. However each time I try to join, I'm ask if I want to be redirected to another server. Eventually I end up on an small german (?) server with about 10-20 players.

When I select serverinfo on the server in the server browser, it lists all the 63 players but they just have jibberish names, like: Fn4x, @EH2mVB8 all the names seems random.

All in all, it looks as if somebody has rigged a etpub clone to display the false information, just to lure players to their empty server.

Has anybody else had other experiences like this? Has anybody been able to join the server?

The server I'm talking about is called: ' 36H-PORNO-XPSAVE(GAY!)' notice the space in front of 36H

Its IP is 84.135.30.27:27960

Anyway if this is a fake server, can it be banned from the master server list for abuse?

Even though it's lame, it's quite a nice idea to get people to your servers. If they only would do something about the name...

I've experienced something similar.
I've joined a server on which there was only one place left.
But I've then joined a different server.
I think someone else has joined this server in the time I've been connecting.
Is this possible / a feature of ET-Pub?

Afaik you can redirect players to another server with the sv_fullmsg cvar when the server is full (its a etmain feature).

The redirection feature came with the 2.60 patch.

I have also experience other servers where there, according to the list, should be a slot open. And then found it to be full when trying connect. Anyway thats normal. The server list information is potentially outdated as soon as the game receives it.

However the server I'm talking about in the first post, seems to only lure people to server. Everybody trying to connect is sent to the other server.

Somebody is scanning your computer.
Your computer's UDP ports:
1978, 1986, 1988, and 1993 have been scanned from 84.135.30.27..

Not sure what that's about, and it only happened once.

Aren't these ports CISCO related?

*edit*
It's nothing bad, just the way ASE "pings" server using different source ports. "Ping" a server a handful times in a few seconds and the firewall thinks it's a port scan...

Could also be an attempt to exploit some bugs in CISCO routers/modems.

interesting tactic, maybe its time to add blacklisting to the server browser :D
