i have some weird problem :???:
this is how it should be (radiant pic)

This is all made of patches, right?
There is a cvar called r_lodCurveError which defines how much a patch get's smoothed, maybe this one is set too low for performance issues.
Setting it at 10000 would give a serious smoothed look, but it may be too much. Play with the values and see what looks good for you.

that doesnt seem to work. i dont think it has to do with my settings. any other ideas?

I bet it's r_subdivisions (I like this railgun example :moo:):
