I was wondering if it was currently possible to combine campaigns, as it stands, most agree that it is somewhat impossible to get a "General" rank and such. Plus, it would be awesome to, for a couple maps, run around with maxed out stats.
Is it possible to combine the 2 current campaigns?
Is it possible to extend the XP gaining period?
.....Maybe like let users continue to gain XP after one or 2 campaigns ends, like an unlimited XP collection server. Where XP is never reset.
I know these arent exactly the greatest questions, but I have asked this question during almost every game I play, and the answer seems to be the same.
I would also like to extend out a firm  "w00t! u r0x0r" to Splash Damage for their amazing work, ET is Team Fortress on crack.
P.S.
Will we be able to edit certain aspects of the classes when the mod tools are released? I would love to make a MOD that makes the mortar a little more useful, maybe by letting the Field Op call out coordinates repeatedly instead of just when he calls in Artillery Strikes, thanx again SP.

You would be surprised how easy it is to get the XP across all 7 stats to level 4 in 3 games. You can get level 4 in 3 stats in 1 game if you play well. The extra rankings where added because people where getting mad amounts of XP with just 1 test map. There is alot of tricks and tips for gaing XP quickly.

I dont think you can make the XP unlimited as its reset after the campaign is finished. I know you can certainly make new campaigns out of existing or new maps.
Note: Yes you can make a 6 map campaign, check the following thread: http://www.forumplanet.com/planetwolfenstein/topic.asp?fid=6127&tid=1061026
I'm sure someone will give the server config file if you ask in the above thread.

At present there is no plans to release the source code for MOD teams. You will be able create additional content like maps, skins, new art but you will not be able to add new features or totally change its current look or gameplay direction.
Before you jump up and down and scream about not having access to the source code, think about it ... this is a free game atm so if people could MOD this game they would have a free game platform to develop on. ET is based on current Q3 technology which is not given away free to any MOD team. You have to pay for the Q3 license and atm ET is free.

i agree sock, and i cant thank you enough for you speedient response. Thanx again.
I have yet to manage to max out stats on one map, i can easily do it in 3, but i have yet to see anyone achieve a rank like general. I have only seen one person break 1000 XP, so I dont know if achieving "General" is quite so easy
Thanx again

im sorry, i just read the thread you posted a link to. I was referring to "is it possible to combine the 2 campaigns", not just create a server that runs the 2. I want to combine the 2 campaigns into one so i can gain XP across 6 maps, instead of it being reset after the 3 map split.

And just a question, how much does a license for use of the Q3 engine cost? I know its pretty high up there, but just wondering.

You can have up to 10 maps in any campaign with the XP carried over all 10 maps. ET will even draw all the pins in the loading map! ;)
But you will have to write a new campaign script for this to work. The link to the forum thread was so that you can ask the admin for his script if you wanted to run a server yourself. Elso look at the current scripts folder for clues on what to do. The ET documentation will cover this in more detail.
Q3 license are expensive, best people to ask for a price is ID.

just a question, but does your name "sock" refer to sock as in socket? like an open connection, i.e. WinSOCK, SOCKS5, etc.

if i want to load 10 maps, can i do it as of currently? I know there are only 6 maps, but can we double them over? Use Battery like 2x in one campaign?

if you're searching for a 3D-engine you might find this interesting: http://crystal.sourceforge.net/drupal/
it's an open source engine, yet not finished but already works, looks very promising to me (check the feature list)

Yes you can. 10 mapnames are 10 mapnames regardless if it is the same mapname again. But remember maps are different depending on how much XP people have. Some people don't seem to realise that a map will play different depending on the where it will appear in a campaign.

If you want to see a 6 map campaign:
Wafflehaus/RtCWnews.com

One thing about having a 6map campaign is that many people don't want to install the special pk3 file to play it so the server sits empty quite a bit.
If there is a different way to have a 6 map campaign without the special pk3 I'd appreciate the heads up.

What you are bored of the maps already? Ive been mapping/playing them for months and still dont get bored of them! ;)
I cannot comment on if any more offical maps will be released or made. This is something you should ask Activision about.

i dont mean bored....
i meant like it'd be kool to see sum new maps
i'd say i've played ET for @ least 48 hours sooo far and im not bored but i'd like to see new maps.

If you want to create a new campaign script then you have to create a special pk3 for it. (true) But you can still setup the server to automatically download this special pk3 before the client starts loading the campaign/map.
Yes the client does need the campaign script to run on the server but people dont need to hunt around collecting these pk3 before connecting to the server. If you are having problems or unsure about the setting up of this feature then check the server.cfg file for further information or speak to a server admin.

What about just releasing the server side code, so users could make gameplay variations (like shrub and banimod for RTCW) but not total conversions ? Just a thought...
In any case, ET is great as is, and it is quite understandable if you don't release any code.

Actually doom3 has better graphics but HL2 has better physics and environment interaction.

As far as I am aware there is no plans to release any code, server or client side atm.

sock what maps did you make? :)
I mainly worked on Fueldump and did various sections of Battery, Goldrush, Oasis and Radar. The maps where swapped around alot so everyone had the chance to add their mark. I added my signature to 2 sections of Fueldump if you care to find em. ;)

Its not a texture and its not brushwork, its subtle. It had to be something which could not be found too quickly. Its not hidden, its out in the open for all to see. Just have a wander around and think about what sort of item would I leave around that would not look too out of place ...

I was thinking, perhaps the boots/very large socks (at a stretch), situated in the allied ammo/health area at the start of the map and also in the axis garage by the fuel dump itself.

anyone know what engine doom3 is using?
a brand new one. made by the same guy(s) who wrote the quake engine. i hear it's got better lighting and you need a 4GHz computer to get over 30fps. whheeee!
Actually doom3 has better graphics but HL2 has better physics and environment interaction.
I agree the physics in HL2 are hyped up to be better. Same with the mapping tools. But it still remains to be seen. You can't really tell if you are comparing leaked alpha's vs a divx gameplay demo.

I agree with bogs.
When it comes to multiplayer games, I am always a little suspicious to engines that arent either Quake or UT. :disgust:

I've heard that physics reactions had to be generated for each room, which took up a lot of time.
It's most likely true that there are some misnomers said about each Doom3 and HL2, but for some reason Unreal Tournament 2004 is being left out of these discussions.
Maybe you thought you'd have to wait another couple of years for the next installment, I didn't get 2003, and I probably won't get 2004, as it's probably much of the same old thing.
HL2 is making some claims that makes me raise an eyebrow or 3, such as the 'not scripted AI', which is pretty funny. It just depends on your definition of scripted, I suppose, but there must at least be hard-coded interactions, and an external file with some variables to indicate behavioral tendencies would be best, especially for your mod community.

From a developers stand point UT is not a great platform. It pleases the mediacore gamer. Geforce hardware bug make DXT1 textures look distorted and thats the majority of the textures used in UT (warfare). Not being able to cast a shadow from a static mesh is another downfall. Karma... really is junk.
Doom3 does have amazing graphics.. dot3 bump mapping etc.. and scripting that resembles somewhere between heaven java and c++. It will be hard to compare HL2 to Doom3 accept that game play will be a factor but they target entirely different goals. Hl2 also has stuck to its same primitives that im aware of in brush making which helps them keep a standard for a lower ended machine. Out of the vids you can see that most pilars are 8 sided so geometry wise there taking no risks. Just my opinion though.

Thought the same :-)
the two sockets,.....
But I think and this have Splash Damage shown very well,... that the engine is not most important,... very important are the gameplay and the maps,.... VEry important is that u do it with "love" hehe......that the maps fits and make sense,... that u have a great illusion.
Sock wrote:

I thought about this too and I noticed it playing gold rush,...
I played it often as Singlemap,....it is another thing,.
But a well balanced map will almost remain balanced.
But what happened with the battery,... Who made the decision that the ramp is being blowable by a satchel ???? that is too easy,... this map will not being played very often in some leagues. On publics,... ok,.. but for the Cops it will be very hard to get a uniform of the axis in clanwars, because noone will jump down,...and what happened with the respawn there?? Even though we had the flag (as allies) I respawned at the beach,.. it was not possible to hold the flag for long,.. not to mention getting the bunker.
But sometimes (other games) I respawned at the flag,... what happened here??? Probably there is a difference if u get the flag before or after opening the backdoor??
