Wintery Brink Interview and Preview Round-up

What better way to spend a cold winter evening than by reading these fine new Brink interviews and previews? First up is Destructoid, where you can find a nicely put together video interview with Game Director Paul Wedgwood and Creative Director Richard Ham. The whole thing is served with a generous side of (previously released) gameplay footage, which makes it very watchable indeed.

If you like the way arranged blocks of letters scroll past on your screen, have a browse over to play.tm where Richard Ham is front and center-aligned in a new text interview. This one covers a variety of questions about Brink, its story and setting, as well as blending single and multiplayer.

And lastly, since you can never have too many previews, Official Xbox Magazine UK, Games.on.net, BritXbox, Alltern8, and eGamer are more than happy to help us out there.

Cold... cold...if these winter nights were cold then there would be no need for an Ark

talking about winter. obviously most maps for brink are played inside. but among the ones that aren't and out of interest. iis there a winter map in brink or all played during the other seasons?

It's floating somewhere in the pacific, you really won't find much precipitation or seasonal indicators there.

They said the Ark is near the Equator, so I don't think there will be snow...

I guess BRINK will have some maps with extreme weather conditions considering the game is set in a world in which the climate has gone to hell.

I don't think the weather went to hell, just the icebergs melted, and caused massive flooding. So the really noticable difference is lots of water....Since we are out at sea, I don't expect to see anything too out of the ordinary. It's not like the skies are covered in a blanket of fire and ash is raining down on us.

A lot more water means a lot more rain, and less ground to slow down hurricanes

Don't most people kinda whine about maps with atmospheric effects and demand cvars to disable rain/snow/fogging etc? I just don't think those types of maps are appreciated at all, especially by the comp crowd who must have 100% visibility all the time.

The comp crowd complain about everything

but SD have been pretty good about allowing necessary cvar manipulation

Well the large migration streams which Brink kind of parodises are only partially to rising sea levels, increased droughts are also making large parts of the world unlivable which is what gets people moving.

The ironic thing here though is that oceans will experience (40%) less climate change than the landmasses. So there will be less extreme weather above the oceans. That's would making Ark more hospitable and a rather attractive migrant-magnet compared to any other 'sanctuary' based on land except for Iceland with it's permanent low air pressure zone maybe.

Okay I'll shut up now.

Sometimes going a bit too far I guess, being able to make the red arrows huge for example.

well, I guess it's a matter of compromise, game designers have to listen to many "experts"
they make a game for 12 v 12 and people complain the maps are too big for 3 v 3
they make a game for 8 v 8 and people complain they want 124 v 124 online play
I like to play games the way the designers make them, then figure out if I'd like it modded or not. Just like W:ET, I was happy with original game and the patches made it better, ETPro added the control I liked and still love to play it that way. 64 slot XP save servers were fun for a map or two, but totally killed core game for me.

Yes.

We won't be doing aim assist for mouse. But on the console side, this feature takes the edge off that whole "I got the drop on you-> I definitely win" vibe which most console shooters fall into. There's still an advantage when attacking from behind, but there is at least a bit more fight-back for the victims.
