GFW? But that is a certification isn't it? Nothing to do with GFWL which will stink if they pick that over the likes of Steam.

Mentioned perhaps, but stuff changes. Nothing is a given until the game on the shelves.
Anyway, not sure if that was what Joe was implying with the pictures. I will admit that when I saw the same logo on the trailer my pooper twitched for a few seconds.
He might just be talking about the rating that they're aiming for.
Thinking about it Joe is quite cryptic.

sometimes things are as simple as they are: it's a picture of the first official box art, and it hasn't been on any news yet, so i thought i'd share :D

well, that's not really 'official' box art. the bethesda marketing guys are experimenting with lot of different box art concepts. that's one of about half a dozen that i've seen floating around so far.
where'd you get it, joe?
also, the rating at the beginning of the hi res trailers is actually a rating for the trailers themselves. the full game won't have a rating for quite awhile...

doh! i just noticed that myself and was coming back to say as much, but you guys beat me to it! :) You'll note there's a thumbnail of another box art concept on there as well, which also says GFWL. Will ask Jolly to follow up on that with the Beth guys next week!

Speaking of that image, I noticed that in the e3 trailers the only dodge locki ever does is a slide. Are there other dodges being considered like that depicted in the concept box art?

I must say that is some of the best box art I have ever seen.
Eye catching yet remains aesthetically pleasing.
I really hope they opt for something like this over the generic action man pose on black.
Oh and what not to do:

Are you serious? I thought it was a joke photoshopped by someone and put on the internet. That poor guy looks like he has been starving for weeks and running with sandals is never a good idea.
I like the blue color and the whatdoyoucallit tower in the background though.

Slide is our main one. We talked about doing more, but in the end, a lot of them just end up being fancy gun ballet for it's own sake, since they don't actually help you that much in game. Whereas a slide is very powerful by making you half as tall while still moving full speed and having full aiming and shooting. A skinny body type player who's master sliding is very dangerous :)

Aw not even a tiny wall-jump? In games like UT3 (or even back to 2003) it's brilliant to get away from a wall and avoid the splash damage from explosives that way.

At one point in test, yes :D. People used it almost exclusively. You saw how long people were sliding in the video? Yeah. That's not going to happen unless they accrue velocity some other way.
Now it's toned down a bit so that overall, there's not much benefit on the flat (though it's useful for carrying velocity over medium length obstacles, after a vault) and is much more about ducking out of the way of fire or ramming up next to an obfuscating wall if you see trouble coming (note, we don't do magnetic wall stuff). Still definitely useful - just not game breakingly so.
Also, there's a little bit of perpendicular acceleration available in the slide (same sort of amount you get in air), so although you can't accelerate faster during the move, you still feel a bit more in control, or you can slow down to break out of the move faster (though you have to commit to the move for a minimum amount of time).

Slide is basically hitting the crouch button while sprinting. You can spam them like crazy, but on the whole, you'll end up being a little slower that just sprinting normally. It's really there as a defensive maneuver (smaller low target), to get under low things, and as a melee attack...

can we see this on the next Brink movie release? An enemy sliding to see how hard it is to hit him. And, can you ask Locki to show us some crouch+shoot moves, it will be great to see. THX in advance :D

Oh god no.....
Please if you ever listen to me about anything please listen to this.
DO NOT MAKE SLIDING A MELEE ATTACK.
And if you do, not a one hit kill.
If so it becomes the prefered weapon of choice, and can even be game breaking. Look to the Fear 2 multiplayer for an example. Honestly when playing that game a soldier with heavy armor, max med packs and NO weapons is the best class. The slide out powers nearly every gun in that game. Personally I think the inclusion of it as a melee attcak is rediculous to begin with. I mean honestly what kind of idiot is going to slide tackle some one in the midst of a battle. Perhaps allowing it to blur the enemies vision but cause no damage would be acceptable, but the fact is it should not be the beastly one hit kill of FEAR 2.
*shudders*

It should just be a very, very risky melee attack. Sliding up someone's behind* should knock him out right away, but sliding with low velocity up front shouldn't do much.
*could've formulated that better.

don't worry. it does no damage at all, and i don't think anyone would complain of it being overpowered. :) it's part of the broader melee package that's i'm not supposed to talk about but which has a very different approach than the standard shooter fare. i imagine there'll be stuff revealed about it in the new year.

Not sure whether this has been asked before Rahdo...
Is there any significant speed increase sprinting, if a player switches from their main weapon, to a lighter gun?

Yes, provided you'd be able to crouch and waddle under the table as well. If you've read any of Paul's previous interviews, we're all about running over tables, not under!

Never played CS, but I know it was definitely a feature on QW and something that the Heavy Soldiers had to master. In Brink I guess it would make sense not to include it - to give the athletic / skinny guys that distinct agility advantage.
Thanks for the reply.

In the playtest today, I was charging a guy and he was firing back, had me dead to rights, but I slid, he shot over my head, and I kept firing while I was sliding, and dropped him like a bad habit. It was beyond awesome!

Interesting. That makes me think, what about an option to unequip everything so you gain a slight speed/SMART boost (both hands free after all) at the cost of not being able to do anything else?
Then again, that would just mean yet another option and I don't think the game controllers have that many buttons.

Closed beta normally means behind closed doors, could be one now and people in it aren't allowed to say they are a part of it due to NDAs. People think best way to get in is to brown nose your way in like tokomat has been trying to do since he signed up on these here forums.

Yeah you guys got me, I've been preparing this for years trying to be as active as possible in the Quake Wars forums and all, just for that month of getting to play a malfunctioning version of a game I'll be buying anyway.
Seriously, if you think I'm here to brown nose developers you've it wrong. The beta will probably distributed through planetspy or whatever that site is called just like with QW and I'm not going to pay a subscription to be part of that. I'm here because speculating about game mechanics fascinates me.
