Things You Were Too Afraid to Ask: Jaromir 'pg' Salaj

Unable to flee the premises in time, Jaromir 'pg' Salaj is the latest member of Splash Damage to fall victim to our series of staff interviews. Before arriving at Splash Damage, Jaromir guest-starred at both Illusion Softworks and 10Tacle Studios. He is now part of our hive of environment artists, who are responsible for much of the surroundings you get to experience in our games.

To find out more about Jaromir, including how he ended up in the industry, his tips for breaking in, and how Czechoslovakia neatly merged computing and body-building all the way back in 1985, check out the full interview on his profile page.

" I never realized how simple my job is! "
haha, good sense of humor, sure ;)

"Luckily – there were no IQ tests!"
damn !!
thats quite lucky for SD, cause otherwise Jaromir may be forced to pick management career.
i mean, became boss of competing company, instead integrating to SD , some years later

"so I pretended that I could speak English. It worked!"
haha.
reminds me everyday experience, while both talkers, usually[both on phone/skype and in offline]barely speak on english, but perfectly understand each other, cuz, you know, developers well understand each others, as well as other colleagues. good amount of IQ increase xeno-communication skills even further.

"I never fully recovered from this loss."
sure, coffee machines are Achilles heel of GDF.

"ell, it was the summer of 1985 in former Czechoslovakia, and the line between computing and bodybuilding hadn’t been drawn there just yet."
haha, remind me simlar experience with east europe-made equipment, somewhat[including made by myself].

"Can't talk about that here. "
oh, i hope its not because Jaromir is became big fan of "PG Porn" TV Show, as im become.

"But right now I'm excited about exploring London! And I love Brixton"
happy exploring.
i hope Jaromir enjoy London and British people.
Love ? be careful, cuz Spring was started officially and womans become dangerous... and hot[thats compensate a bit ;-].

Nice read!

And I love Brixton, with all its diversity and strong community movements.
Idd, Brixton is a really nice place these days and has a strong community.

Excuse me for these few words in a Czech language. It's a pleasure to find that at SD is one guy from our country (ex CzechoSlovakie ).

If you had the chance to talk with a SD employee for 1 minute, what would you say?
I'd definately not talk about food

lol , not bad ... there's no reason to be so serious. Be cool.

If I had only 1 minute , ... that's exactly enough to invite a SD employee or SD employer for a dinner and a good beer to talk 'bout the work.

Anyway - I'm not looking for any job at Splash Damage , (right now );
well , let me talk 'bout any subject ...

Jaromir - if You don't like this discussion - just let me know .

why not ?
why became so info-greedy creature and not talk with people/guys/friends about something inocent, "ordinary".
many of my many-many-many overseas friends[most on whom i NEVER meet "in person". sadly] was begin communitating from something["crash course"?], like "you are really from Russian. how are ... in there? what about ... ? i heard ... about ... . its true?" and other usual "nonsense", which are many ordinary means are may talk about. girls, guns., politics, foods[why not, btw ? food are esential and can be tasty ;-], hobbies and many many other "usual" and not so obvious things as "you are from SD? what are plans about ... ? particulary mean .. in .... context ? and why ?".

i mean: nothing bad in talking about "ordinary" topics.
if man like food of nation/people, to which he belong in past, its always part of his memories.
as well as anything else[regardless conditions].

It's the second time in a few weeks that I see Cat's Cradle mentioned as a favorite book. Just ordered it at amazon.

/edit: Just finished it and it's a nice book indeed. I like his style!
