Explore Brink's Container City in a New Gameplay Video
Submitted by badman on Wed, 12/02/2009 - 10:31
The next Brink video has gone up on G4TV, showing a few minutes of in-game footage set in the Ark's Container City district. This is the first part of this particular mission - expect to see more of it later in the week. Enjoy.

Noticed how the SMG was effective at close range but had too much spread at long range. Will be interesting to see how the Assualt Rifles work etc.
Good video though.

Yeah wish we could talk more about weapons and how they're ... aaa, i'm not allowed to say. I guess just leave it as there's a lot more to it that what you see in the vid :-)

man. i cant find anything what i could complain about. (i see you removed the annoying head bob whyle running in that build)
i like it how easily you create a singleplayer like atmosphere just by (i think) locking the starting areas and doing some voice acting. it gives me a slight idea of what your aiming at with brink.
and than. bang. the game acutally begins ET style. escort robot, plant explosives at door, interrogate enemies and stuff like that. and we didnt even see everything. looking forward to the supporting classes like medic and hopefully theres something like a field ops.
btw. the helicopter at the beginning... when i first saw your concept art i hoped you would implement stuff like that. flying helicopters and stuff. and now i see it ingame. just nice.
ohoh, when can we see the videos in HD? i just want to watch it over and over again :)
theres so much more what i like about the vid. i just watch it again :)

The guy complaining about the helicopter alerting everyone really strikes the dilemma in most modern conflicts. Balancing humanitarian security vs military overhand.
Oh and was Badman really laying around all the time?

LOL! I liked the fact that they probably don't have rights to the name of the Kriss Super V (SMG) so they Called it the Kross! I don't know why but I just found that hilarious. Are you guys basing the guns on real weapons or are you creating made up ones?
That was the best video so far. I love the pre game little cut scene things - they are brilliant. AI looked surprisingly good for such early stage in development (I think some of them were AI, correct me if I'm wrong). Contrary to what some people have been saying, I really like the screen shake/blur - it adds to the cinematic quality and makes you feel more involved (even though I wasn't even playing).
What I didn't expect, but I really, really like is the slide to cover thing that he was doing. I expected the slide to be Mirror's Edge style but it isn't it really shunts you into that wall, I loved that. When you get used to SMART, it will be sooooo good.
Overall, it looks fantastic.

Hey, I'm new here, but have been following Brink for awhile.
I must admit I was skeptical of the quality of the singleplayer/story experience when the gameplay is essentially the same as a multiplayer match. I must say this video blew me away with the excellent voice acting and overall atmosphere. My hype level for this game has officially exceeded my hype for Halo: Reach or any other game in 2010. Great job splash damage.

Welcome to the forums!
Yeah just like in ETQW, they're using semi-caricatures of real weapons.

Just wow! Looks amazing and the crosshair dosnt look as off putting as it did in the video showing off the SMART system, could be that there was less jumping over and under things and more shooting in this video but none the less looks better also the job you have done with the iron sights is fantastic.
One question though with this whole enrolling single player into multiplayer does that remove the opportunity for more 'hardcore team death match' and so on like in that big let down of a game CoD6?

I also decided to register. Used to play ET and ET:QW, was also active at the ETQW forums. Really interested in Brink now, that movie looked great. Keep up the good work Splash Damage.

The second video looks also nice. Is Brink using the id Tech 4 engine just like ETQW?

plus virtual texturization for the highly detailed characters.
(when i first read theyre using the tech4 again i didnt believe it. it almost showed the quality of RAGE in the first screenshots, but yea, it is idtech4 heavily modified)

Yes, indeed. When I watch the "run-slide-shotgun-movement"-action (inter alia 02:29-02:40) I sense I am watching the future of fps game movement design. Other games will feel old when this ships.

.Chris.
Is this the same footage that was shown at Leeds few weeks back or whenever it was? Looks familiar however I have not got sound here at work but if it is then tokomat you need your ears testing if think voices are 'brilliant', cheese on toast came to mind when I saw/heard the presentation.
One thing I keep forgetting to mention is hit detection, have you done anything in regards to this since ET:QW, it was pretty poor when folk were jumping and leaning and so on which begs the question, how well will it be when firing on enemy performing SMART movements?

Yup, pretty much the exact same demo that was shown at Eurocom/Gamescom/Quakecon/PAX/E3.
As for hit detection, we have switched away from the one big hit box to individual ones for limbs and whatnot. And we're working on lag compensation code right now as it happens :)
