Electronic Sports League Announces Brink Autumn Cup

Following the success the Electronic Sports League's massive Brink tournament this summer, Europe's largest e-sports organisation has just announced a brand-new tournament for the PC version of Brink. Dubbed the Autumn Cup, it'll take the form of a 5 on 5 double elimination tournament, with the action kicking off on 28 September - that's exactly one week from today. Prizes include €1500 in cash as well as access to the ESL's Premium service.

Sign-ups are open right now - head over to the ESL's Brink section to enlist!

I assume that they're running it on PC? They don't specifically say so anywhere and they have a console section on their site. Well good luck to those that enter. EDIT: ah. I see Badman's post says PC version.
Posted on 21 September, 2011 - 15:00
It says for PC version. EDIT: Lol, ESL has something for consoles I see :)

It mentions that use of the ESL's own anti-cheat tool is mandatory for the cup, which would indicate that's PC-only.
Posted on 21 September, 2011 - 15:02
You know what, I'm going to give this a go. Let's set a up a team of old farts.

That and "tournament for the PC version of Brink." is pretty unambiguous.

Congrats epsilon pretty much, especially if the weapon changes don't come anytime soon. Absolutely pointless to have yet another tournament on the game. The big money championship turned into a two horse race by the end, full of drop outs and lack of teams to practice against. Challenge cup ended up with a source team getting through to playoffs by getting default wins for every group game.

Yeah. I skipped straight to the ESL page and didn't see a platform mentioned and found they had Brink sections under PC and Xbox360. Saw "Valve anti-cheat" and "ESL anti-cheat" which is why I was thinking PC but for all I know it could be Xbox too (There are Valve games on Xbox). But then I actually read Badman's post properly  Guess that teaches me for skipping ahead. Personally I'd have something on their page that specifies a platform for better user experience but I guess if you're a regular you know what's going on there anyway.

Only if the accuracy has increased please

duh! I'll falcon punch a puppy otherwise!
Posted on 21 September, 2011 - 17:13
So who wants to build a team? I'm not going to let a bunch of nitwits show up and collect the money without a fight. Also I've made my character look extra err, fashionable, for on TV. We're going for the showmanship award.
Posted on 21 September, 2011 - 17:19
i will build one if i dont have a clan recruiting me soon what i think is not gona happen due to the lack of clans^^ check my post in the recruiting forum and add me on steam if you are interested
Posted on 21 September, 2011 - 17:52
1500 euro, thats like 5 euro for every brink player that is left :D
Posted on 21 September, 2011 - 18:10
Will we be getting weapon tweaks before the tourney?
As soon as we've got a solid release timeframe, we'll share it with you guys. And yeah, the weapon tweaks will make stuff more accurate, among other things.
Posted on 21 September, 2011 - 18:28
koekje for badman :)
Posted on 21 September, 2011 - 18:33
Come on guys, I want a star team.

A new story entry has been added: [drupal=869]Electronic Sports League Announces Brink Autumn Cup[/drupal]
If you want to jump-start this cup, SD should participate with a team.
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 12:13
Dont have brink on ma pc :D Need to reistall many stuffs including windows (fugly .NET version...) and I cant be arsed at all to do it so... I'll pass!
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 15:55
Well that was disappointing. Lots of no's and a handful of maybes from the active forum crowd.

Do you have ANY idea what would happen to the reputation of the company if only SD showed up to play their own game?
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 16:26
reputation? unsure if there's anything left of it tbh :(
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 17:00
Ashog! Do you want to join the team?

They would probably play with Xbox controllers, cause I heard they had nailed those controls
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 17:14
I can attest to that, they're pretty awesome, you can see that a lot of time and devotion has been put into those controls.
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 17:16
I'd join up if I'd actually enjoy playing the game competitively. But I don't.
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 18:00
Nobody does, that's why it's going to be hilarious. You don't need to be that good in order to stand a chance, so a few seasoned ETers can perform quite well here. Not in it for the money, although I do want to win. I'll guess I'll donate any price to that Tapir foundation. That may be good for a gaming news article giving them some exposure. Still need some folks though, preferably elitist forum jerks.
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 18:40
ah thats why I got an invite. Ok, if you need me I'll play, forget about that PM.
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 18:50
im also still looking for a team but it looks like you have to spend more time on the forums then ingame to get one -.-'
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 18:57
im a massive jerk in game and forums. shiiit.
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 19:08
Got a few more maybe´s. But I have a bad experience with maybe so I guess I´ll get more desperate before the deadline. ´Rep´ would be a cool team name wouldn´t you think?
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 19:32
Lol...why is ESL doing this tournament? Do they seriously think brink is alive atm? They should wait till SD finishes the weapon tweaks.
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 20:17

At the moment there are 3 teams :D with SD their will be 4 and after that the number of teams will go only Up. If SD wish to participate, it will only show that they are still love/support the Games they make, call it an incentive. The only way to rekindle the spark of competition play in their gene poll :D Hell, call it field work for your next game, SD. On this cup you will learn more about what gamers want than from 50 "Community Question". Make it happen, even if you join with a different name, so you can say afterwards that you play competitively the game you make. GL &HF for those who will play in this cup.
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 20:45
will the matches be cast? I still have this suspicion that they used two years of 'hardcore' feedback on doing the opposite in order to attract the mainstream.
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 21:08

Hahaha yea  Read the community feedback and do the exact opposite to attract the mainstream. gl&hf with the new customer target group
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 21:14
It's almost too easy, I can just hand pick the best players I meet online, these guys haven't even heard of ESL yet.

Call your team 'Mash-Up'. A wonderful reference to your team being slapped together at short notice and the variety of 'ideas' in Brink.
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 22:09
'Clusterfudge' It's nice though. I just met a guy who sincerely loves the game. Great player as well.
Posted on 22 September, 2011 - 22:11
Couldn't play after the dlc so I uninstalled. gl though and thanks for asking.
Will we be getting weapon tweaks before the tourney?
One can only hope.
Posted on 23 September, 2011 - 01:56
It looks like I may in fact have a Digital Legion team, so sorry Tokamak, looking forward to kick your ass :)
Posted on 23 September, 2011 - 10:37
Backstabber! How could I have ever trusted you!
Posted on 23 September, 2011 - 10:51
Derp, that's only natural if you invite elitist pricks

Is no one else concerned about this 3rd-party program that they are requiring people to install? Jimmy no like. Bad medicine. -JJ

Have you never played competitively before?
I was in a DOOM 2 tournament in 1995. Does that count? I was the top ranked player until my girlfriend at the time, Throbblefoot, came back from a trip to Ireland. Then I dropped out and now I'm just rambling. Anyway, why didn't Brink ship with PunkBuster like ET:QW? -JJ

Most leagues require you to run a 3rd party anti-cheat program these days because shipped anti-cheat (Brink uses VAC) get hacks coded specifically to get around them, and especially when there is no demo-recording. This is of course to steal your bank account information and implant viruses in your brain... jk.

The sad thing is these 3rd party anti-cheat doesn't do ****. Other than making you lag and being annoying.

The last league anti-cheat I used in a game made my vent crash randomly and ate 50% cpu. In the middle of a finals match, I suddenly drop from vent before I can call the full rush that was heading to my bomb site.... luckily I clutched lol.

Seems like the app is mainly used to discourage cheating rather than actually detect it.
Posted on 24 September, 2011 - 21:55
I'm really thankful to ESL for starting up another Cup. Hopefully SGS and Epsilon will be back for a rematch? Wish I could play, but I'm in Japan, so probably not allowed, and would have bad ping anyway.
Posted on 25 September, 2011 - 03:45

They tend to scan your pc (registry probably) for specifics and monitor your processes. I am sure some just add a scare factor as well.
Posted on 25 September, 2011 - 04:32
Alright, tokamak, if they release the weapon updates before the cup, I'll play. Though I'll have to play on a laptop, a wireless connection and a 250-300 ping. It'll be like I'm from Poland. :D
Posted on 25 September, 2011 - 12:13
Sounds like you would be better off without the patch favouring those who can aim then.
Posted on 25 September, 2011 - 12:31
What's the ruleset for this? I found the maps but that seems to be everything on the ESL site. What about abilities?
Posted on 26 September, 2011 - 17:07
tried to play brink earlier today, there was only around 40 players online in total for pc. Are there any clans that even play this game anymore?
Posted on 27 September, 2011 - 04:49
I'm now taking anyone on the team. First come first served.
Posted on 27 September, 2011 - 09:13
Same here Codine, we tried to get back in shape a little and there was only 1 full server on EU primetime. Brink has properly died on PC now.
Posted on 27 September, 2011 - 12:28
I'm now taking anyone on the team. First come first served.
Count me in ;)
Posted on 27 September, 2011 - 13:12
I did :D Although we could probably take on teams with just the two on us, it would be nice to have a few more to buff us while we're on our rampage.
Posted on 27 September, 2011 - 14:12
Fewer grubby hands to split the prize between.
Posted on 28 September, 2011 - 02:47
Still no ruleset :( No servers either, people have to come up with their own which means you never know the server enforces the right rules.
Posted on 28 September, 2011 - 15:24
Oh that's pretty dire.
Posted on 28 September, 2011 - 15:36
Doesn't look like you managed to get a team? Registration is closed now :(
Posted on 28 September, 2011 - 15:58
nope I did not. Too bad as I would love to see the player behind each forum poster.
Posted on 28 September, 2011 - 16:00
Yeah I was kinda hoping you'd make it in as well. Oh well, at least we're at a nice round 8 teams now, that makes the matchtree a lot easier :)
Posted on 28 September, 2011 - 16:06
Wow, a grand total of 8 teams play for a 1500 euro prize? I wonder where they all came from?!
Posted on 28 September, 2011 - 20:17
Not really, of the 4 matches yesterday, only 1 got played. 3 noshows so that's a maximum of 5 teams. I need to win just 1 match now and get prize money :)
Posted on 29 September, 2011 - 14:22
Most hyped up game and now 5 teams in a tourney with actual prizes. Sad. This is what happens SD when you dumb down the game for retards.
Posted on 29 September, 2011 - 17:40

LOL- 3 teams bailed on a tourny offering $$ for the winners to funny and so SAD considering: am reading about a Falling Leaves Tourny going on, i believe, this weekend with ETQW -- 12 teams signed up for it.. and yeah am not seeing any other "prize" then bragging rights... Brink = so much potential wasted, to appease console gamers..
Posted on 29 September, 2011 - 19:23
Hahahahaha. Aw man.. I feel kind of sad for the guys at ESL now.
Posted on 29 September, 2011 - 20:40
Yep, I hope SD takes note because this says A LOT.
Posted on 29 September, 2011 - 21:07
That's... painful.
Posted on 29 September, 2011 - 21:11
Well, we lost and everyone on the team uninstalled straight after. Sorry SD, this game just isn't good.
Posted on 3 October, 2011 - 10:30
Another lesson that you can't buy a community, you just have to make a good game.
Posted on 3 October, 2011 - 10:42

they probably do, especially if they got more money than their previous pc titles...sad as that is for long term fans.
Posted on 7 October, 2011 - 17:46
and long term brand viability.
Posted on 7 October, 2011 - 18:00

I doubt that. The current population is a more accurate number of how many people will buy a sequel, as opposed to the total sales after release. If it's about money, then that ain't a very good idea. They might stick to consoles though.
Posted on 7 October, 2011 - 18:22
that's what i mean - having a loyal but small pc fanbase that can't support you as a developer is not sustainable...on console the numbers seem higher and who's to say they'll do a sequel and tbh in terms of brand i bet the majority of gamers only recognise the game/publisher...which in this case would be brink/bethesda.
