Brink DLC Coming Next Week, Console Title Update Out Today!

We've got several great pieces of Brink news for you today, including a release date for the "Agents of Change" DLC and a new title update for the console versions of Brink.

Agents of Change

First of all, we're delighted to be able to announce that both the Brink "Agents of Change" DLC has passed certification for the consoles and will be released on Xbox Live, PSN, and Steam on 3 August! Once it's out, you'll be able to download it for free for two whole weeks (and if you do so, you'll be able to re-download the content at no charge later on, too).

Agents of Change brings two new maps to Brink, Founders' Tower and Labs, as well as five new player abilities, two new outfits, and two weapon attachments- for more information on all the new content you'll find in the pack, check out this previous blog update. Naturally, Agents of Change also contains several new Xbox/Steam achievements and PSN trophies for you to go after.

To celebrate the impending release of Agents of Change, we've got a bunch of new screenshots showing off both Founders' Tower and Labs. You can find those sprinkled throughout this update, like so:

Xbox 360/PS3 Title Update

But that's not all! In addition to Agents of Change, we've also been hard at work on a comprehensive new title update for both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 versions of Brink. Better yet, this update is available on Xbox Live right now, with PlayStation 3 set to receive it later today. Keep on reading for some of the highlights - we've also got the full, unedited changelog at the very end of this blog.

Most importantly, this update brings a host of additional networking improvements and optimisations to Brink multiplayer. These will make your online experience smoother and more consistent on both Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, so you'll be able to have better quality multiplayer matches on both services.

Next up is Brink's AI, which is also receiving a whole bunch of tweaks. For starters, your AI teammates are getting new objective priorities across the board, so they'll be more likely to go after Core Objectives and will find Command Posts a little bit less appealing. AI characters on the attacking team in Campaign mode will now also prove more useful all around, while all bot inhibitors for Freeplay matches have been disabled entirely - this will make AI characters more challenging and fun to play with and against in Brink multiplayer.

For those of you that enjoy playing Stopwatch, there's now a new post-match summary screen detailing the performance of both teams. Not only will you be able to see who's won overall, but the new summary will also break down the time taken for each of the objectives – great for bragging rights!

Additionally, this update includes a massive bundle of weapon balancing tweaks. Among other things, heavy weapons and grenade launchers are getting a boost, while SMGs are dialled back a bit. Very nearly everything else gets tickled with the balancing stick, as well, so there's literally something for everyone. If you’re after the full breakdown of what’s changing, you can find that in this post.

Speaking of balancing, this update also moves a few more things over to our netvars, which allows us to adjust these on the fly in the future without requiring you to download a full game update. These include respawn timers and timelimits for all of the maps in the game, as well as body type health, so we'll have even greater flexibility when it comes to balancing. As always, keep sharing your balancing feedback with us – it's been invaluable so far.

Finally, this update also includes numerous bug fixes. For example, light body types are now no longer being able to wield heavy weapons and we've also been able to tackle a bunch of issues with some items being misreported on the Brink statistics site. By the way, if you haven't registered an account on there yet, now’s the time! Not only will you be able to see a detailed breakdown of your player and weapons statistics, but you'll also be able to check out summaries of your most recent matches and compare your stats to those of other players.

There's a big list of other fixes and improvements included in the title update – check out the full, unedited changelog below for the whole list:

can someone over at splash damage shake the hand of the environment artist for me? it looks so beautiful! thats real art in my eyes... (sadly the freaking hud will destroy that beauty)
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 16:10
Yep. Them's some purty looking maps. Can't wait to put bullet holes in them :D
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 16:12
Hallelujah! EDIT: I just noticed the facepaint of the steam punk. is that new?
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 16:19
Eeek, I'm a little sad I figured this thread would BOOM....
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 16:23
No fixes for pc? Great!
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 16:24
Only a month late. Is there any word on fixing team switching and team balance? It is incredibly annoying to have your entire team jump ship because they only want to defend.
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 16:25
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

It will, just wait until later on.

yeah, people with their jobs and schools not being online... HOW DARE THEY lol.
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 16:28
Congratulations guys !!! Those maps look fantastic, very positive atmosphere :P You have fantastic artist SD ! This game has so much style from the weapons to the levels and outfits!!
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 16:33
woot! looking forward to some new maps.
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 16:34
Two maps are not worth $10. I guess that includes the dlc, kinda stupid, I thought the new abilities would be free for everyone. Just not the maps.
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 16:35
No fixes for pc? Great!
The PC has already had these fixes applied. It's easier to roll up patches in the DLC for Xbox and PS3 due to the certification process. PC is much easier for them to patch so we've had the patch for a while now (plus PC is a good testbed because it's quick to change).
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 16:37
Improved network syncing when placing HE charges and hack devices
I assume this translates to a shorter delay between getting the prompt, pressing the button, and my guy performing the action?
Gave Freeplay game mode bots a fixed difficulty (rather than time-based scaling)
So we weren't smoking our breakfast. This time.
Extensive weapon balance changes
Sorry Carbaholics!
Changed default matchmaking from "My Rank" to "My Rank or Higher"
It's not lobbies, but it'll certainly help.
Removed the "Advanced" config from the list to reduce number of matchmaking buckets
Ditto.
Added Stopwatch review screen Changed stopwatch rules to keep track of number of objectives during calculation of winning team
Will be nice to have some quantitative values to argue over!
Removed the delay when team switching in match warm-up
Awesome! Now when trying to balance teams, we won't be temporarily screwing either the team we're leaving, or (usually) the team we're attempting to join.
Added/moved respawn and time limit values into Netvars for future tweaking
I would imagine changes to netvars like these might be minisule in size and unnoticable without one really looking hard at them....Will you still announce these possible future adjustments, so we know the rules (of battle) have changed (or are about to)?
Added body-type health to the netvars for future tweaking
See previous.
Updated Terminal & Reactor to work with changes to atmosphere code
No idea what this means, but right on~
Fixed Light body types being able to wield Heavy weapons
Right on.
Fixed Combat Intuition ability revealing disguised Operatives
Operatives rejoice!
Fixed several stat reporting issues Fixed bullets point of impact varying from client to client Fixed overtime not kicking in on Shipyard 1st objective Fixed overtime not ending on Reactor when the hackbox is removed Fixed bots not performing objectives on Security Tower after map migration Fixed issue with diminishing returns on wall jumps not being applied Fixed incorrect command post screens being shown after cutscenes Added support for dummy sound files to improve loading times in FIGS
/thumbsup
Fixed being able to place mines on certain walls
Mines on WALLS? This a reference to satchel charges? or can engineers actually place mines on walls (to discourage wall-jumping!)? I've never actually tried.
Fixed 3rd person hacking animation not playing Fixed being able to see through walls when peeking Fixed an issue with FIGS voiceovers not always being played Fixed some logic bugs in stopwatch winner calculations Fixed objective completion count on Aquarium
/thumbsup
Fixed player nametags disappearing after flash bang even when they are not affected
Any tweak to flashbangs with Friendly Fire on, so I'm not blinding my teammates?
Fixed default save data icon not being displayed Fixed thin white bar found to the extreme right of round edged UI boxes
/thumbsup
Fixed conflicts in the French code.lang causing some default strings to appear
Voila!
Fixed dark shadow-band appearing on narrow fields-of-view Fixed debug text appearing at the end of the credits
/thumbsup

Thought the pc was gonna get some more weapon tweaks maybe a few fps cvars unlocked too?

What are you talking about? Everything related to the DLC is FREE for 2 weeks only.. So if you want to level up to 24 then get the DLC in the 2 weeks free time period.

General consensus pretty much says the DLC will not bring back people who drop the game like a bad habit.

I suspect if Splash Damage were willing to make any changes to the PC version that customers want, they'd be done already. My hope for a better PC version is sadly, dead in the water.

Free for two weeks, then it's $10, I thought you'd just pay for the maps, not the abilities. Anyways, I'm gonna get it for free, I'm just saying though.

There are so many things that should of been in the PC version that were either taken out or not completed as Rahdo stated in the other thread, not enough resources to do so. Now are they going to eventually roll those features back in is the magic question.. Potential is there for this game to be totally badass if they can somehow include the modding community and let them run wild with the Brink world.

Quakecon finals will be played on a map not a single player has even seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOT!!!! wp sd, wp! Literally, has there been a single aspect of Brink that hasn't had some huge level of disappointment attached to it? Its unreal tbh.

Hahaha! That's pretty screwed up, make sure to get a demo for us so we can laugh and cry with you guys. Oh wait, make sure to use Fraps on stage since that's the only way to record this game. :)

Don't Rub it in Muffin, yes the demo feature not being in this game is basically a "Brain Fart" moment by someone or group of people who were deciding what should be in game or not.

What are you saying--that the abilities, outfits and increased level cap should be a separate DLC from the two maps? Wouldn't that just decrease the value of the map pack and make it less attractive for future consumers to buy?

Eh, I actually like to watch matches that are hosted on youtube/VoD services. I won't get to do that with BRINK even if the match ups are worth watching. At least I'll get to watch Quake Live and maybe CSN will stream some of their TF2 stuff. At least now the NA ESL tournament might happen so we can all just move on. There hasn't been any news about it for over a month, so they've probably just abandoned the game.

Waaaah! We did it brothers, we did it!!!!!! Although I'd like to see some more resistance maps too. They are allready the minority(25% of all maps). With the new DLC they will only make up 20% of all maps. But maybe such a map(resistance) would look too much like the CC map. Since they life in a quite monotone environment with no aquarium, reactor, infirmary, resort, hangar..., so it would be quite hard to create a unique res map. Maybe some kind of sewer-map would be an option.
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 18:21

Until you play them on the Xbox. Still nothing in the patch to sort out textures. I guess what you see is what you get (or is that the other way round in this case?)

They could do some more variation with resistance: Maps on abandoned oil tankers, old parts of the ark that have been on the resistance side for ages so everything is old and "remodelled" -> things like that. Maybe in the future?

We have tankers on shipyard, or do you mean offshore? Offshore would be great and old parts of the ark wich are really "F"ed up would be also very nice. It actually appears kinda unfair that the res isn't allowed to show us their world in the same way as sec and founders.

why pc next week? many of us can only get in decent sessions on weekends due to work and life etc. bit annoying really. surely the pc one should be the easiest to arrange? btw - i had to re-allow brink in firewall. have we had a pc update? edit. misread it. thought consoles were out before for dlc
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 18:56
I'm very excited, yet I am also curious about whether the graphics problems on the 360 will ever be addressed. Those are some amazing screenshots but I'm trying to imagine them through the 480p limit you put on the xbox.

I didn't know about that limit. That sucks and explains a lot. Anyway good to see the DLC is coming next week, hopefully it's been worth the wait.
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 19:12
Honestly I don't think there is that limit, but it sure looks like it.
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 19:14
I really wonder that there are actually still players left who wait for it. Lol....

One word. Parity. It's been an issue for the game from the outset as far as the PC version is concerned.

Well, since it's free I'm gonna try it for a couple of hours, hell, maybe even a day! But after that... *delete game?* YES/NO *press YES* And when it will be done, ETQW will still be on my hard drive.

Paying for abilities & attachments is lame. Characters should be on a level playing field, DLC or not. Should've just been part of the patch, not the DLC, IMO. (especially since some of this stuff was already finished pre-release, such as the bayonet that can be seen in one of the in-game tutorial videos)

That will likely be the Operative using his UAV.

Yeah unfortunately there wont be any more updates for the game, oh wait no, silly me I just remembered that there are 3 versions of the game.

This. Dear Splash Damage employees; for the sake of your game looking even slightly decent at QuakeCon, I would strongly urge you to release extensive footage of Labs being played at least 2-3 days before QuakeCon. The Brink tournament already isn't going to be the highlight of the event, at least allow the finals to be spectator-worthy.

You know, I didn't really notice the Brink 360 graphics issue until I played Black Ops again for the first time in a month. I went from super sharp graphics in BlOps to blurry enemies in Brink. On my 55" LCD 1080p HDTV, I can really tell the difference, especially on CC in the first main street after the wall. Blurry blobs everywhere trying to kill me. Is it sharper on the PS3??

Based on videos I've seen it does look a bit better on PS3 than 360, but it's not as big of difference as when you compare console vs (Quality) PC. I'll have to give the game a shot on my plasma tonight instead of the LCD and see if it makes any difference. Haven't had a chance to play too much on that TV thanks to the wife.
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 20:44
So when's the free weekend for steam? Also if your worry about blobs in games, Battlefield 3 is the same way.
Posted on 29 July, 2011 - 20:45
From my experience, it depends... if the graphic (be it character model, or environmental) suddenly shows on screen (ie turning your view quickly, or an opponent/teammate pops into view) then the graphics are blurry for a second while the system loads the higher def images. If the graphic is on screen long distance and I run towards it, then I never see the blurriness, as the PS3 is able to update the images fast enough to keep up.

Mommy, Mommy, the bad people at Splash Damage would not make the game to my exact specifications! MOMMMEEEEEEEEEEE!

I have to say, maps of greenery will shake up the visuals a bit. It was one of my main reasons for voting for the arboretum/bio-dome maps in the recent future maps poll. Looks lush. Will be nice to see how it handles and how your characters stand out against it. I have spoken to my overlord (aka The Wife) and I have been granted the night off from all responsible duties! Huzzah! I will be the fatboy Gotlung wielding Security behemoth blundering lost about the map! Or playing with the UAV!

The DLC was already on the way... So I have 1 option to choose? #2 :p

Can we not lvl up until tues. if my char. is @ lvl 20??? I was hoping that I could be lvl 24 on tues so I wouldn't have 2 play all day (30,000+ for lvl 21!?) to get a uav... On another note I noticed that a couple of my lite char's had the glitch where they could carry heavy weapons (my lite char's would rock carb-9's for the main & a baulpan for the sidearm, so it wasn't that obvious, down fire! LOL), now instead of a baulpan the sidearm looks like a reskinned belgo mp. It's strange cuz I only have the psycho dlc which only reskins the ritchie (the ceasar). So I got a free piece of dlc! I'm pretty sure I can't add any attachments tho cuz that breaks the glitch but I noticed the update seems to make machine pistols shoot a lil mo' accurate! More fun to be found in update im sure...!

Ah hell to da yeah! But knowing my luck i'll be working both of my jobs. The same thing happen to me at launch but I had my girlfriend pick it up for me. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed praying i don't have to work my 2nd job that day. This is torture.

Just de-level your guy once and then re-level him to 20 but don't spend the point until the DLC comes. Assuming the new abilities are all rank 5, it will be unlocked and you'll have that point saved to spend on it.

Well, looks like the reason for me to start playing this game again has showed up. Been waiting on the balance tweaks more than anything, but it's nice that the DLC will hit in less than a week from now.

Stopwatch changes are very good. Like how you added the progress and time breakdown. Good stuff. :)

"we've also been able to tackle a bunch of issues with some items being misreported on the Brink statistics site. By the way, if you haven't registered an account on there yet, nows the time!" Because there have been a few Lulzsec arrests or because Beth have patched the security holes on that site?

Hmmmm....bandwidth improvements is nice. Now all the consoles need are a proper lobby and I might just play this game again.

It took a while, but as they say, good things come to those that wait. After the X-games is done for the day, I'll be giving the weapon tweaks and other various fixes on the 360 a shot. This update couldn't have come at a better time, as I had been playing Brink less and less the past few weeks, now my interest is renewed. Also, I'm really damn happy that it's being released the 3rd and not any later in August, as I'm leaving at like 4am on the 4th for vacation, and I wouldn't actually pay for the DLC if I missed it. Good job SD! The pictures look amazing, and I can only imagine to levels will be super fun to play as well.

Yes. Founders Tower looks amazing. :)

I'm not trying to be a dick, by all means, but this game has definitely not lived up to it's hype. It felt unfinished. I feel that the addition of multiplayer lobbies would have made this game 100x more fun for my friends and I (who hardly play it together). It's a fun game, but I just don't feel like it's what most of us expected. Or maybe my friends and I just had higher expectations than most. Please don't get me wrong - I think you guys over at Splash Damage have a GREAT concept for a game going, and I hope to see it really develop in the next Brink title. As I said, it's a fun game and i'm still glad I bought it - it just feels like it's missing a lot for a game that is all about the multiplayer experience. Either way, I look forward to checking out this new, awesome-looking DLC, though it's way overdue.

So when can we expect the next PC patch? Maps are great but without gameplay tweaks the added content will only appeal to people for a short period of time.

they say if it doesn't come from SD then dont believe it... I say if it does come from SD dont believe it

Ofcourse we will get more updates! I don't believe they will drop the support after 2 1/2 months after working 3y? on this game.

Will this be preloaded on steam and unlocked at a certain time? Or will the guys with bad connections have to wait many hours til its playable?

A lot of very noticeable improvements in Brink. I played for 8 hours yesterday. Everything looked and ran smoother. The gun balanced seemed fine. Minigun is very powerful now. But as of now, I can live with that. :) Let the heavies have some fun! Liked the changes to stopwatch. It also helped a lot to eliminate Advanced. The pool of players was better. Definitely seeing and feeling the hard work put into the game tweaks. A.I bots were better on both sides. And even capped Objectives. Which is a great fix. Especially for those who just want to game solo. Some other guns are coming more to the forefront now like the Tampa, Galactic, and Euston. Which is good just to give the game some more variety. Some cool ideas I was thinking is maybe you could throw in some kind of altered variant of a mode, or something and throw that in as a weekend playlist. Not sure what that would be, but it could just be some wacky version where all the character run at a higher speed or something. Not sure. Too bad there wasn't a way or a feature that allowed you just to change a mode from Objective to Stopwatch. Lets say we just played a match in competitive objective and we have 10 people and now we want to face off in Stopwatch mode. It would be cool if we could just hit start, scroll down the scoreboard and select switch it from Objective to Stopwatch right there. That way we don't have to back out, start the stopwatch mode, then form back up. This may be more of a lobby thing, but perhaps its just a choice above options or added in the way that you added the new stopwatch progress tracker menu option. Anyway, I am really looking forward to the DLC! Looks awesome. And good job on the fixes! Game looks and feels so much better! The graphics look better now; they look like they did when I first got the game before the second patch. So bravo! :)

The graphics look better on X360? On PS3, they're just as bad as they were pre-patch.

Yeah I can confirm that on Xbox. They look much smoother and back to normal. So yeah, greatly improved. I can't speak for PS3. Sorry. :)

Yeah, Lol. That's why I was. Interesting to hear improvements to X360. Shame they've not improved elsewhere.

Ha ha ha! I got up around 7am. Found out about the patch, then downloaded it. Played around with it for about a couple hours. No biggie. Went out for breakfast, went to see a movie (smurfs) got some lunch out at an Italian resturant (yum) got back round 3pm, played for two or three hours. Ordered some pizza (yum) and hung out with the fam. Got back on round 9 and played until 1pm or so, and had some fun with Thesuperhappyfuntime Clan and Neph&Co. Then went to bed after chilling watching Chronicles of Riddick for the 1billionth time until Riddick is all back of the bus, then fell asleep. What's wrong with that for a Friday? :D
