Brink to be Shown at PAX 09 Next Week
Submitted by badman on Fri, 08/28/2009 - 23:55
Following appearances at QuakeCon 2009 and gamescom 2009, Brink will make another stop at this year's Penny Arcade Expo when it kicks off next Friday in Seattle, Washington. Paul 'Locki' Wedgwood will be showing the game to attendees, with presentations set to kick-off on the hour beginning at 10 AM each day.
The Penny Arcade Expo (or 'PAX' to its closest friends) takes place from September 4 - 6 at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center in Seattle, Washington. More information on the event is available at www.paxsite.com. We hope to see you there!

Last week badman did promise some footage would be released in the next couple of weeks, and PAX seems to be the last big convention in that timespan, so hopefully next to some screenshots we'll get a gameplay trailer (or just the gameplay trailer would also be fine!) during PAX.

Paul, you say that every event :)
I would say people that can show a rubber duck should be allowed to skip the queue.
Every duck must be released in the water of the Brink booth.

Well PAX was great fun! The downside is that after touring from London to LA (E3) to London to DC to Dallas (QuakeCon) to London to Collogne (Gamescom) to London to Seattle (PAX) and I would hope to now finally relax, except when I arrive in London at 2.00pm tommorow, I'm then driving SIX hours to and old Quake clan-mates' wedding in Cumbria!
omg I'm deaded

Yeah, you guys looked like you were about to pass out any second when I was talking to you. The demo was really awesome though. I think my sarcasm about the movement went straight over your head though, Locki. :P
It was awesome finally meeting you guys: Locki and Fluffy. Hope the flight goes well.

Of course, do visit a doctor if you seem to have some complications...

Yeah I went to the doctor yesterday and got myself some Tamiflu. Already feeling a heck of a lot better. Probably the most sick I've ever been. If you have the option to get vaccinated this fall, go and get it!

People taking or thinking of taking Tamiflu: be aware that some people have trouble getting along with the stuff - most commonly nausea or vomiting, but also a bunch of other fairly rare but bizzare effects.
Note: This isn't to say "Don't take tamiflu"; that would be retarded if you have symptoms or have tested positive. Just try to have someone keep an eye on you, if you can. Stay safe, people.

H1N1 can give you nausea and vomiting too! Plus a bunch of other horrible things. Fortunately it didn't get that bad for me.
Also, people on the internet are not doctors. Especially when it's a blog about "my daughter had swine flu and...".

Oh wait, I think I see what's happened here.
I said that H1N1 is dangerous, and if you have good reason to suspect you have it you should take Tamiflu (or some other antiviral), but have someone keep an eye on you since Tamiflu occasionally does odd things.
Apparently this translates to 'TAMIFLU IS CONSPIRCY FROM RAELIANS SWINE FLU HOAX GEOCENTRIC UNIVERSE LEVEL 20 CHIROPRACTOR/HOMEOPATH I CAST EMPOWERED PRAYER OF JESUS.'
People on the internet are not all Doctors. Therefore, there are no Doctors on the internet! Logic 101. Especially not on Scienceblogs, which pretty much exclusively host blogs from scientists and doctors.
'...and because she was suffering from vomiting and nausea the Tamiflu nausea and vomiting side-effects wouldn't have been a problem for her anyway, so don't not take Tamiflu just because of the potential side effects. Tamiflu is occasionally dangerous, H1N1 is always dangerous.'
One of the benefits of actually reading what you're quoting/paraphrasing is that you can work out what it says, and so know whether the counter-argument you're trying to make is actually identical to the argument that you're trying to counter.
One anecdote in one paragraph in one post is about his/her daughter. Therefore, the blog is about his/her daughter. Never mind the other posts not about his/her daughter, this one paragraph is definitely enough evidence to draw a conclusion. All those papers and studies linked to in the article? Made up hoaxes to support his/her 'daughter' conspiracy theory.
...Oh for pity's sake, why do I bother?

I've had the virus for two weeks. The sore throat is the worst. Don't do like I did (visit gigs, wander trough towns until the first morning train comes by) and just get lots of sleep, then you'll reduce the duration of it the most.

I had the swine flu, and it was quite anticlimactic. That's why I call it the Hype Flu, because it isn't even as dangerous as the regular seasonal flu to otherwise healthy folks...

Got your panties in a bunch much, shirosae? A two line post results in a page long rebuttal. Impressive that you could draw so many conclusions about my off handed comment. I think you've been arguing with tokamak for too long to actually have a normal forum conversation anymore.
mortis: That's not quite true. Healthy, young adults are even more at risk than older people with existing health conditions (source). There's something known as a Cytokine storm, which (if it happens) can actually cause a healthy immune system to overreact and become a detriment to your system. Personally I'm a triathlete and a marathon runner and I haven't been able to get out of bed for 3 days now. I don't recall the last time I was this sick. Definitely worse than the regular seasonal flu.
I guess it will affect different people in different ways. I certainly wouldn't wish this on anyone.
I'm curious, did you get swabbed and actually tested positive, mortis?

Let's list the conclusions I drew, then.
1) You didn't understand what the point of my post was.
2) You didn't read the article I linked before criticising it for what it didn't say.
Two is not really impressive.
But hey; it's only the start of something which has a reasonable chance of becoming a global pandemic, where the major drug that might be taken by millions this winter have some as-yet insufficiently researched side-effects including suicidal behaviour in adolescents. Let's not suggest that anyone actually be aware of that or anything; it's hardly worthy of SERIOUS BUSINESS.
Normally I'm a bit over-sensitive to the I-didn't-read-your-post-lol-here's-what-I-think thing. But it probably has been aggravated a bit by that, yes.

@acidrain ... my health provider only runs cultures when you're on your deathbed. I had the flu, followed a minor bout of strep throat, and they said its 'most likely' swine flu as it fit the profile, but since I was already getting better on my own, I didn't need medical attention, blah blah. It was no worse than any other flu I've ever had, except my throat still has some lingering soreness even now (about ten days ago I got sick). Another funny thing was that my sense of taste was totally screwed up for about a week. All better now.
It was more like a naggy, bad cold for me. I gave it the one-two punch of Nyquil and plenty of bed rest. That seemed to do the trick.

I dodged the bullet! No flu and am having a great holiday :)
On the subject of medical suffering at PAX, Paul did the first day's demos in pretty excruciating pain, as he'd thrown his back out on the flight over. Only had some ibuprofen to see him through. I believe by the 3rd day it had receded to a dull ache though.
The man is a trooper!
