Splash Damage in 2012 - A Message From Paul Wedgwood

We've enjoyed a fantastic first 10 years at Splash Damage and we're looking forward to an even more exciting future. A huge part of this is due to you - our fans - so in this update, I'd like to give you a quick glimpse of what you can expect from us this year.

First off, I want to thank all of you for your support throughout the years. Some of you have been with us right from the days of the Q3F mod team, then Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars, and Brink. You've not only played our games, but also created countless maps and modifications, organized tournaments and leagues, and started fan sites in very-nearly every corner of the globe. We appreciate your interest and support more than we can say, along with your comments, feedback and, yes, complaints too. We look forward to sharing this next chapter in Splash Damage's history with you.

2012 is going to be a very special year for Splash Damage. In fact, it's going to be the most significant year in our history. In 2001 we went from a mod team to a professional developer. In the 10 years that followed, we became an AAA multi-platform developer, shipped three big multiplayer titles, worked on licensed properties and even created an original new universe. We've learned a lot from each of our games, and especially learned from the mistakes that we've made too.

As Gamers, we've also seen enormous changes in the past decade. We can now play multiplayer games online no matter what the platform is. Thanks to the wonders of digital distribution, we can buy games directly from their developers, and play them immediately. Mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets are more widespread than ever before, and these let us play wherever we are. More recently, the rise of good free-to-play games has allowed players to get their feet wet without demanding a big investment upfront. And, awesomely, despite an entire decade's worth of premature obituaries, the PC as a gaming platform is looking healthier than ever. All of this is transforming the ways games are made, sold, and played.

Which brings us back to 2012 being a special year for Splash Damage. We've got several significant announcements to make in the coming weeks and months. We've hired some amazing new talent, strengthening our team in key areas. We'll be revealing new titles - both on platforms we've previously visited (including the PC and the world's leading consoles), as well as exploring spaces completely new to us. Finally, we've got some special things planned to take full advantage of the changes our industry is experiencing. This is a hugely exciting time for everyone here at the studio and we can't wait to tell you about all the cool things we've got in store for you this year.

New titles... plural?
Exciting indeed

Hopefully still focusing on true FPS not this role-playing FPS type thing that seems to be going around at the moment...

Awesome, the gap between ETQW release and learning about Brink was 2 years, glad we don't have to wait quite as long to learn about what's coming up next from SD \o/

ETQW LIVE c'mon just do it

Affirmation is always nice. Now I wish I could be a part of all that more than ever.

@Pytox, let's have W:ETLIVE first and then use the momentum to boost that vibrant community into ETQWlive.

Also a bit scary.

Though, it's not unwise for an independent developer to have a small indie game project as these can prove to be sudden hits at a relative low cost. I really hope that's how it will work out for Futuremark with their Unstoppable Gorg.

Great stuff, i hope your next decade to be full with success and great achievements, and to here some news about MP for Doom, a Brink sequel/new IP and some iPhone/Android games
Also i have two questions:" What is Chris doing under that table?" and
If the pixel in the back of the photo with white shirt is you, then, you are getting thin Locki, what's happening? Stress, gym or lack of beer and xbox controller?

Well this has piqued my interest. An Android/iOS title could be cool (though not if it controls like this.) Personally, I would love ET style multiplayer for Doom 4, so announce that. Anyway, best of luck with your endeavours.

tokamak, looking forward to that Futuremark space-based shooter they trailed last year. Such a shame that Shattered Horizon couldn't maintain a player base.

Sounds good, Paul, but until you guys implement proper LAN support for Brink, your word has no value for us.

Great news!! Please, if u advertise single player like u did before releasing BRINK, u better make real single player, not with bots. Good luck!

Congrats with the 10 years, looking forward to see what you will announce next - within weeks, not months yes?

Unexplored new spaces hmm - do I smell some HTML5 version of TapirWars (or similar) on the horizon?
