Job Description

As a Lead Character Artist at Splash Damage, you will work closely with the Art Director and other Team Leads with the responsibility of creating, establishing and maintaining high quality characters for our projects. You will be:

  • Working with the Art team to maintain a consistent quality for a range of assets;
  • Creating detailed high-poly models, model efficient low-poly meshes and author high quality textures
  • Highly experienced working with normal maps and capable of creating realistic materials
  • Self-motivated, proactive and able to demonstrate initiative

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Highly experienced and proficient with 3D Studio MAX, Zbrush (and/or Mudbox) and Photoshop
  • Strong 3D modeling, sculpting and texturing skills
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of anatomy
  • Experience of management, organization and direction of art teams
  • Experience of real-time character pipelines and efficient management of UVs and texture memory
  • Examples of current and past work which demonstrate a strong understanding of form, silhouette, shape, texture, color and lighting
  • Understanding of character preparation from modeling, rigging and skinning for animation
  • Strong hard surface sub-division modeling skills
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills
  • Passionate about games

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years experience in developing character models and textures or an outstanding portfolio
  • Minimum 3 shipped titles where credited as Character Artist
  • Knowledge of real-time shaders
  • Experience with Unreal Engine
  • Concept design/illustration
  • Knowledge of rigging and skinning principles
