Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is a Glorious Nine Years Old!

Splash Damage's first game Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory was released on this day nine entire years ago, leading us to refer to today internally as WolfenNine (so sorry, guys). As we write this, there have been over 16 million Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory installations, well over half a billion multiplayer matches, countless user-made maps, and a myriad of tournaments and leagues. Mind-boggling numbers all around and much of this is down to all of you guys and gals who are the true life of the game. We can't thank you enough for your support.

Over the next couple of days, we'll be rolling out a few bits of content to commemorate Wolf: ET and the community behind it. This includes a very special giveaway you won't want to miss, so be sure to check back for that.

In the meantime, join us in wishing Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory a very happy birthday. Here's to the next nine years!

Yay SD! Happy nine years guys, you trully have taken a potential community at the time and made it more than it would be as a Wolfenstein sequel. I'm glad, really glad that you release the multiplayer part as a standalone game and made one of the biggest contributions a game developer company has made to the competition community, let alone the game community as a hole. Congrats, that made you Grand.

whistle...whistle...cheer... If we make it to 10 years and keep the player traffic, that will be epic.

And the game is still alive! It has one of the(if not THE) best modding communities out there. Congrats SplashDamage with this piece of art! I'm proud to be a part of this.

v57 ! Thank you,SplashDamage for making this game. The community behind it is very unique. I had a lot funny moments in and I can't forget the people who I met in this game. I can't also forget my first gameplay in 2003, it was battery map and I was throwing grenades, but I made a lot of teamkills :D

My first ever game was on Radar, my dad had to choose the team & class for me as I was lost in the limbo menu:D. Most memorable map is Railgun with my old wireless mouse (I went through 10-20 of these within a few months).

Ahhh - 9 years - how time flies. My first experience was Battery.....and i was hooked :) Thanks again for a great game....it still is.

Since you say your first game, I hope I can do do :D Well, I guess my XP wasn't meeting the requirements, I had no server list, and was only able to play offline on 2.55: the 2.60b wasn't letting me play even in local. So my first game was Radar in local x) It was so underpowered that when I was trying to build the Axis MG in the tower, it was cancelled before finishing it, even if keeping the mouse left pressed o.o And no way to plant dynamite... Then added RAM from 128 to 768, MS list, play online.

I always like playing fueldump, first time I played it I was amazed at the graphics, still am, and the length of the map. Happy Birthday!

Hah...thats cool man. Yeah I remember showing my kid how to play. Then he grew up and kicked my butt on ET.

:), I was 12 at the time, still got that original disc. I remember where we parked at the store, where the magazine was & where other people were standing. I remember the pictures in the magazine and some of the text from the players. A sniper on Battery near the lighthouse prone scoping, and the text was "LET HIM OUT RETARD BOY"... I felt at home before even playing the game :D. Played until 2006 constantly, every single day. I was playing in a clan for 1 year inwhich I met someone who lived litteraly in the next city from me (13 miles away). I added him on Myspace in 2007 and now have him on Facebook. Turns out he knew my cousins and family members. He's also been to many places with my friends (who he also played with and didn't know it). Small world :). I still speak to him now and then, he was my e-buddy for such a long time <3. I had to leave our clan (Promo Gaming) and joined International Killers. I reached my top skill level which was 2006 HIGH SKILL, after YEARS of practice & dedication. I then leave a few weeks later when I decided to quit ET as I wanted to spend it with friends. I found my girlfriend within 1 month, and still with her now (6 years in July ;)). I spent all my time outside drinking & not sleeping :P, I also went to college so had no more time to play. Still don't really play now, only now and then on XP save servers (which I used to hate)... <3 2003-2006

Here's a little historical gem showing an advert for ET from my SoF2 jewel case, from before they decided to ditch the singleplayer component (submitted to Moby Games, if it's approved it'll appear here): :)
