Update: This position has now been filled. We'd like to thank everybody who applied.

We are happy to announce that we have received approval from Kevin Cloud over at id Software to release the source maps that we created during our development of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. This is a belated present to mark Wolf:ET's fifth birthday that we reported on last month. The package is a modest 6 Megabytes in size and includes source .map files for all six of the officially released maps.
On a side note, for those of you wanting to import the maps into Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars, jRAD and Torchy assure me that this is indeed possible as EditWorld will happily import *.map files. Keep in mind that it will require some of the obvious texture path replacements and entity work, though.

In a vain attempt to quench our merciless thirst for multiplayer competition, we’ve entered the upcoming Games 5s 5-a-side football tournament sponsored by Microsoft & MCV. The whole affair is in good fun, though we still intend to ruthlessly crush everyone else. This is not as wild a hope as it might seem: the tournament is only open to game industry folk who may well prove to be as wheezingly unfit as we, thus allowing our natural winningness/lack of moral qualm to prevail :) The best part is that the winning team will get a £1500 donation for a charity of their choosing, which in our case may or may not involve snortling and endangered perissodactyl animals.
To kick it all off (Hooyah!), we’ve decided to run a little competition of our own: what should our inevitably victorious team name be? Our heroic imminently-all-conquering foot-to-ball squad currently toil and flex without label, monicker or title - will you be the namegiver? More details on this unique title-bestowing opportunity near the end of this blog entry, so keep reading!
We don't often hoot and holler about books about games, mainly because they don't crop up with any great frequency and few of them are very good when they do. They seem doomed to only spring from the pen of writers who don't understand games, or gamers who can't write. So we're happy to tip our hat to Jim Rossignol's This Gaming Life: Travels in Three Cities, which is very good.
We've known the wretched beast talented journalist that is the Rossignol for a while, from his scribblings for RockPaperShotgun, Wired and PC Gamer, but also from wayyyy back in the day when he and some of our number were heavily implicated in Quake III Arena clans and leagues, which didn't seem to do any of us any harm. Who among us indeed would not warm to TGL's opening paragraph: "In May 2000 I was fired from my job as a reporter on a finance newsletter because of an obsession with a video game...It was the best thing that ever happened to me."
We are currently seeking a talented AI Programmer for our unannounced title with Bethesda Softworks. As our AI Programmer, you'll be responsible for creating the artificial intelligence driving characters in both the single and multiplayer components of the game, and you may also be asked to aid in the creation of our robot army which may or may not take over the world at some point in the future. If that sounds like your cup of tea, you can find the full job description, including desired skills, required experience, and benefits offered here in the Jobs section.
The Official Competition Mod for Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars is here! The mod allows server admins and tournament organizers to easily implement and enforce specific rule-sets via a host of new customization options. An extensive Wiki page detailing the features of the mod and how to use them can be found here in the Splash Damage Wiki. You can grab the mod from the mirrors below:
More mirrors will be added as we get them. We are also planning to release the Competition Mod source code in the near future so that you can use it for your own Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars mods.

Better yet, every 10,000th vote gets one of many cool prizes, including Xbox 360s, Sony tellies, games, and more!

Grand Theft Auto 4 has come and gone, and so the eyes and hands here at Splash Damage turn to a new crop of games. With games like Lego Indiana Jones, GRID, Rock Band, and Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars hitting consoles last week and with stuff like Metal Gear Solid 4, Battlefield: Bad Company, and Sins of a Solar Empire all set to assault our wallets before month's end, the impending advent of Summer doesn't appear to be affecting release schedules very much at all so far.
Let's take a look at what we've been playing recently and what we're looking forward to in the coming weeks:
A free demo of Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars is now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Store. Each demo comes with one map and can be played online with other players or offline with bots.
On the Xbox, Sewer is the battlefield of choice and has the human GDF on the attack trying to flush the Strogg out of (surprisingly enough) a sewer system in Japan. PlayStation gamers get to fight on Island, where GDF forces are trying to steal a data disc from the entrenched Strogg. Both maps features a healthy mix of outdoor and indoor combat, and there are ample tactical options for all of the classes in the game.
The long list nominees for the 2008 Golden Joystick awards have been announced and Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars scored an amazing seven of them! Long list voting takes place until June 16th and is completely open to the public. The top games in each category will then move on to the next round.
Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars and its PC developer Splash Damage are in the running for the following:
Nuts All Nighter
Online Game of the Year
PC Game of The Year
PlayStation Game of The Year
The Ultimate Game of The Year
Xbox Game of The Year
UK Developer of The Year
Go vote and help Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars make the cut!
Splash Damage supremo and notorious wearer-of-pants Paul 'Locki' Wedgwood is one of several game design luminaries interviewed by 1Up.com's Game Genie feature. Alongside such gamesmith colossi as Warren Spector, Richard Garriot and Will Wright, the Lockster waxes lyrical about his deepest, darkest designery desires and shamelessly exposes the biggest challenges facing game designers today. The resulting endeavour is an interesting read and well worth checking out. Directly related, rumours that we must now refer to him as "O Prominent Gamemaker" are largely unfounded.
We're currently looking for a Character Artist as we continue to expand our team for our new project. Should you accept this assignment, you'll be working closely with the Art Director and our Lead Character Artist to create high quality characters for the game. A full breakdown of responsibilities, desired skills and experience, and benefits can be found here in the Jobs section. We also have a number of other positions available across all development disciplines.
The finalists for the Develop Industry Excellence Awards have been announced and we received two great nominations! Our work on Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars received a rather substantial nod in the form of a nomination for Best Use of a License, while Splash Damage as a whole was nominated for Best Independent Studio. The Develop Industry Excellence Awards are arguably the most prestigious developer awards in the UK and we are extremely pleased to be among the nominees this year. The winners will be announced on July 30 during this year's Develop Conference and Expo in Brighton.
For those planning to pick up the Xbox 360 version of Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars and wondering what magical achievements they can look forward to, look no further! We've compiled the complete achievement list right here, sporting some 50 achievements in total. The goods are fairly evenly spread out across ETQW's instant action, campaign, and Xbox Live multiplayer modes, so there's something for everyone. Click the 'Read more...' link for the full list.
To mark the release of Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars on Xbox 360, Microsoft is pulling out all the stops this coming weekend. There'll be a multitude of ETQW-related events going on, including the chance to play with members of id Software, Splash Damage, and Nerve Software. Better yet, there's a plethora of prizes to be won, including Xbox 360 Elites and lots of ETQW merchandise. Here's a run-down of the events:
Thunderbolt Games recently had a brief chat with Senior Game Designer Ed 'BongoBoy' Stern about the just released console versions of the Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars. In the interview, Ed also shared a few bits of knowledge about Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory's design and lasting appeal, as well as his thoughts on some of the other multiplayer shooters out there at the moment.
Lead Effects Artist Niel is in charge of explosions, muzzle flashes, and any other effects that make our levels more fanciful, pretty, and immersive. Boom!
